Many people are saying that this shirt is offensive and that it does not impart grace. Well I would ask those people what separates this shirt from one that says maybe "murder is sin" or "stealing is sin" or "fornication is sin" I am sick and tired of Christians (or atleast people who call themselves such) being afraid to tell it like it is. God gave the 10 Commandments and spelled stuff like this out very clearly. He was not afraid of offending those who may have murdered someone in the past when he made commandment number 6. He wasn't afraid of offending the person who had stolen in the past when he made commandment number 8…and the list could go on. So why should we feel timid or shy about calling a sin a sin? There are certain things that God simply does not stand for. They are sin plain and simple. The intention of this shirt is not to condemn, but to state a fact plain and simply. The target reader of this shirt is not the person who has had an abortion and feels bad about it. It is for the person who is unsure of whether or not abortion is murder. I love this shirt. It is not too in your face. I can speak from experience...you see, I have had an abortion. It was the worst mistake or better description, SIN I could have ever committed. Through the blood of our Savior, I am forgiven. My sin is washed away. Satan does come against me still to this day, hitting me with guilt over what I did in my past...I rebuke him in the name of Jesus Christ. The Truth of the message on the t-shirt needs to be told and hammered into the wickedness of people's minds. As many people who already reacted, I'm against abortion. But I totally dislike this t-shirt. Not because it is not showing grace but because it totally misses it's aim. My name is Mary and I am living with the consequences of my "choice". I have been a Christian since I was five and was brought up in the church. When I was 17 someone caused me pain that I could not even begin to explain, but this pain was only the beginning. The next two years I would do something far more damaging to myself. I had two abortions. I can still remember finding out that I was pregnant and being so scared and my boyfriend was also very frightened. I had seen and heard how girls were treated when they got pregnant out of wedlock and that was something that I did not want. So I decided to get an abortion. That day is still so clear in my mind. Waiting in the room with at least 20 other girls to go into the room, almost like a cattle call, I was bawling my eyes out. So much so in fact that they told me if I could not get it together I would need to go home. I honestly know what it feels to quench the Spirit because I did it that day. After it happened I felt so empty and like I was the scum of the earth how could I have done this? How could I a follower of Christ murder an innocent child? Not once but twice and the second time was the following year and I did it without batting an eye. I can tell you why I did it, first because I was selfish and second because I was believing the lies. The lies that I believed were that no one would find out and that my life would be better. Nothing could be farther from the truth. God knew that I had done it and soon I had someone come to me to say that if they were pregnant they would get an abortion. I was so overcome with tears and pain that I had to tell her. Well my now sister in law told her whole family and one night it came to blows but thankfully I have a wonderful husband and mother in law who protected me from his sisters attacks. I have told two other friends in my life recently who did not judge me but comforted me and I think that is how God started to heal me. As for my life being better, yes it would have been tough at first but now I am left wondering what I am going to say to my children in heaven when I meet them. All I can think of is that I am so sorry. What else is there to say? I have four other children now that are amazing but I am in constant fear that they are going to be taken away from me in some way, which is what happens to people who have had abortions. How am I going to explain to the two children I rejected that I decided to have four other children? This is what I am faced with and these are the consequences of my "choice". It has been twelve years since I made that first choice and I am still living with the guilt and shame. God has done some serious healing in me and He continues to remind me that He has forgiven me, but I can't help from thinking that my first decision as a mother was to kill my child. I can't see how an abortion made my life better. Abortion is murder and it may be murder of the worst kind because we aren't told that it is murder. I mean it is a head and heart disconnect in that way I knew that it was murder but I wouldn't let my heart feel that it was. The arguments about how it will offend people and cause political issues, etc. It has been my experience that any Christian shirt offends people. If you wear a Christian shirt to some places, it is frowned upon. I'm sure there are many places that would ban them if they could (there are some loopholes that allow them to be banned in certain circumstances). Abortion IS murder plain and simple. We are called to preach truth. Just because people are offended or don't agree doesn't change the fact that it is truth. The problem with America is that people are afraid of truth. So I totally agree with every word on the, but is this really a good thing to wear? This shirt is likely to become a political arguement to anyone who wears it, and seems to me to be "throwing pearls to swind" (Matthew 7) and we are called to do the opposite. We are called to be peacemakers (Matthew 5, Mark, Galations 6:1, Rom 12:18; 14:19 etc.) and this shirt doesn't quite seem to get such a point across. Would this shirt change your mind if you were planning on having one? From my experience, actual relationships are far more effective than such things.
