This group of assignments in the series called Writing Strands is designed to give homeschooled third level students a grounding in the very complicated process of giving others their thoughts in written form. This level is designed for students who, in public school, would be considered ready for third or even up to seventh grade. Of course, third and seventh grade students would write much differently, but that is not a problem. Both can experience leaning the skills presented in this level. It has been designed to be widely applied, for there are many experiences here that most young writers should have. The learning of this skill is one of the hardest jobs that you have. These assignments will make it easier. Much ofthe planning and detail of the writing process is presented here. The writing exercises in this level are in four categories: basic, creative, organization, and descriptive. The assignments in each of these areas will guide you in the development of the skills you will need. Rather than increase the work for your parents, this writing process should make it easier for both you and your parents to meet the demans for more student writing. These assignments are not presented as the ultimate answer. They are detailed suggestions. There will be no serious damage done to you if some of the assignments are skipped or changed to meet your interst or the desires of your parents. If most of the assignments are done, you will have a well-founded introduction to this most difficult skill, and your parents will find it easier to have confidence that this part of the teaching challenge has been met.
