Rubric-based instruction and assessment helps students achieve solid writing skills. This new, innovative rubric-based writing program is designed to develop strong writing skills and raise scores on standards-based tests. Research-based WRITE! is an effective fusion of: GUM (grammar, usage, and mechanics) instruction and practice rubric-based instruction and assessment of writing writing activities based on writing models graphic organizers student/teacher interaction test-prep selected-response questions and writing prompts In this teacher-directed program, GUM is taught in conjunction with writing, enabling students to apply what they learn as they progress. Writing models appear throughout, helping to set expectations. PART II--Models In Part II lessons, writing models provide students with points of reference for their own writing. Models introduce writing forms such as descriptions, narratives, expository essays, opinions, and summaries. In Books 3-8, there's also a model for writing research reports. Lessons begin by asking students to read a writing model that responds to a sample writing prompt. Helpful writing tips are provided. Students learn about and practice using graphic organizers.
