Concise two-page lessons include instruction, practice, and writing. Instruction --In teacher-guided steps, students think about a concept while reviewing examples in context. Then students study a short writing model with more highlighted examples. Important characteristics of the concept are called out alongside the model. Practice --Following instruction, students apply what they've learned by completing related activities. In Books 2-8, three activities progress in difficulty. Writing --A writing prompt asks students to apply the concept learned in the lesson to a specific writing assignment. In Books 2-8, a relevant writing tip follows. The last lesson in Part I is devoted entirely to revising and editing skills. The test-prep that follows checks comprehension and familiarizes students with the format of standards-based tests.
