There are basically two ways to teach a foreign language. The traditional approach involves introducing a concept in English followed by oral practice in that foreign language. A foreign language may also be taught predominantly in that foreign language so that the student begins thinking in that language rather than stopping to mentally translate each word. Spanish 3 may be used with either method. The objectives given for each lesson indicate that the work be translated orally by the student; however, this option is left to the teacher's discretion. Students may be instructed in Spanish without using English.
