A stray mongrel, wandered into a Pittsburgh fire station and became the mascot that went with men of the 102nd regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers, and became a beloved civil war hero along with Chaplain A. M. Stewart. His picture still hangs on the wall of the Soldiers and Sailors Museum in Pittsburgh that, along with his story, inspired Florence W. Biros to write the novel. It includes a14 page "Living History Gallery" (actual photos of the reenactment of the 125th anniversary at Gettysburg) and others throughout the book. The family feature film, "Dog Jack" will be released in the fall of 2007.
