Two thousand years ago Jesus called his followers to be one with the Father and to be dedicated to one another. He gave the disciples a model for living life together that changed the world. Current and upcoming generations of Christians are yearning for that model, longing for life in genuine community. Both in America and abroad, the church is returning to a house-to-house type of meeting. In developing countries, the fastest growing churches use small groups as the pathway to both growth and health. Small groups are proving to be a key component--not a sideline feature--of growing churches. They are an emerging strategy in spiritual formation, disciple-making, assimilation of new members, lay mobilization, leadership development, and even evangelism.
