George Gallup, Jr. suggests in his book, The People's Religion, that Americans are among the loneliest people in the world. Even among Christians, this feeling of loneliness has pervaded. Our Bible studies, our small groups, and our churches have somehow not filled the need we have to "belong." We still feel lonely. Christians look longingly at the description of the church community in Acts, wishing they could experience at least a portion of that kind of nurturing environment. However, they don't know where to start. Thousands of churches have restructured their ministries into more manageable-sized small groups. However, pastors and their congregations are discovering that something is still missing. Randy Frazee - and the members of his congregation - felt that "sinking feeling" in their stomachs. Though his church has one of the most developed and integrated small group structures of any church in the nation, they realized that something more was needed. The three essential elements of real church community and the fifteen principles that undergird those essentials are being employed by the members of his church. The people involved are finding that these principles work - they feel supported and they feel that they finally belong. The Connecting Church will lead any Christian to an understanding of how to develop relationships that really do work for the long haul
