A Wound to be Healed We all have experienced some type of betrayal as the receiver or the betrayer. Through firsthand experience on both sides of betrayal, author and speaker Carol Kornacki offers a four-step recovery process to overcome this hurt. The recovery process begins like any other: admitting something is wrong. "Be sure to examine the anger and rage that can grow from the seeds of betrayal. These seeds were watered with years of unforgiveness and fertilized with the stone cold refusal to face what is in one's heart," writes Kornacki. Betrayal, often referred to as the "Judas kiss," comes in many forms: adultery, lying, gossiping, sexual abuse, breaking a confidence, letting someone down when they are depending on you, and deserting someone in need, to name a few. The road to recovery, according to Kornacki, is the same for each. It also includes forgiveness, giving it to God and not trying to get even, and praying. Kornacki, who relates how a God encounter in 1980 healed her instantly from chronic hepatitis, drug addiction, and mental illness, draws on her own experiences to map out the course of corrective action. She notes: "I think it is important to tell you, my dear reader, that in my life I have been guilty of betraying others. I have experienced firsthand the regret and terrible remorse that one feels when you have betrayed someone that loves you and trusted you." It is very possible you may find your story in these pages. One thing is for certain, you will find healing for the deepest cut.
