Young Mary is well known for both her love and her love of flowers. One day the Countess invites her to bring some lilies for her daughter. Mary and the girl, Amelia, become fast friends, and Mary is often invited over to spend time with her. When she is invited for Amelia's birthday, Mary is determined to bring something truly wonderful for a gift. Her father crafts a beautiful basket, which Mary fills with her best flowers. Amelia is delighted with the gift, but the day is spoiled when a ring turns up missing and Mary is blamed. Although Mary professes her innocence, it seems that she was the only one who could possibly responsible. She and her father are banished, and they must find another place to make a living. Mary's faith is tested throughout many trials and struggles, and in the end, her good character is rewarded. Although children younger than the 4th grade may not be as inclined to read this, it could be read aloud to children of all ages. Audio CD version.
