Hey yall! sooo im wondering what you guys think about tattoos...
I, personally, dont think they are alright. And basically my only reasoning for that decision is cuz we are to treat our bodies as the temple of God like they are, and putting ink into your skin seems like spray painting a church. Dont get me wrong, im not saying those who have tattoos are in the wrong by any means! Thats just my opinion, anyways, tell me what you think? -) <-- thats mr. alien face btw! lol

So we should not spend our money on make up or getting our hair done or expensive clothing either. these are all vain things that we tend to spend our money on... I look at my tattoos as an accessory. It is no different that putting on eye liner every day.

I agree with Katie. Its just an accesory. and gentlemen01...tattoos do reflect who you are and what goes on inside of you. the HE>i tattoo I want reflects that God is greater than me and thats what I believe. That reflects who I am and what goes on inside me. Same as the imperfect one I want. I stopped trying to try to be perfect because I knew it would never work. im not meant to be perfect and I finally came the the conclusion I will never be perfect so i am perfectly fine with being imperfect. (lots of perfects in that sentence :p) but the point is, those two tattoos reflect who I am on the inside. There are SO many tattoos that reflect Christ. Both the ones I want do. My friends dad has a verse from Hebrews and an entire design around it. It wasnt until I took a closer look that it was a verse and based on Christ. There are so many ways to reflcet on who Christ is, a tattoo is one of them. Thats what I think.

@Katie- I was making a point to the others that God does not care what we look like, but that he cares about the heart. Im not against tattoos, my parents have them and I want them as well. I agree they are an accessory, and they are beautiful artwork. I want to get a LION tattoo!
@Chels- Well put! :)

ik, you were just making it seem as if the outward appearance didnt matter so i was making a clarification that it DOES. Which I know u know, i was just making that point for the other readers.
Katie - 5/2/10 @ 6:05 PM
Just making a point. Those who are against tattoos should also be against dying hair, and putting on make up as well. These actions can be painful and are also changing your outward appearance.

I didnt go through every single page in the thread so I apologize if what I say has already been said..
BUT..
From what I know, the Leviticus scripture was said because at the time people were cutting and marking their skin for the soul purpose of worship to other gods, not God. Also, as far as Paul saying that your body is a temple, from what I know about this scripture, he was speaking to a city that had been infested with sexual immorality and he was addressing that specific issue. I feel that many people who use the two versus in their argument against tattoos take them out of their actual context and meaning.
I also feel that tattoos are a personal conviction, and should only support your relationship with God. For example, I have a tattoo on my inner lip that says "purity". As a guy, believe it or not this permanent mark on my body helps in keeping myself accountable when it comes to giving into lustful temptations. It is sort of a public proclamation to stay pure in mind, heart, and soul..sort of how water baptism is a public proclamation of your faith. Please correct me if Im wrong, thanks guys!

music_lover-thank you :]
Gent01 Ive learned that outward appearence isnt what matters. But with todays society, that is all people take into consideration and judge you based n your appearance. But yes I realize the point you were making :]

i think tattoos are alright i know were suppose to treat our bodies like a temple whats wrong with a little decoration jk jk but i dont see whats wrong with them. my youth pastor has a tattos and he is on fire for God.
chels. - 5/3/10 @ 4:20 PM
I dont find anything wrong with them either as long as you are still glorifying God with your body in the form of a tattoo, then I see nothing wrong with it.
PutHisBloodOnIt - 5/3/10 @ 5:30 PM
I got a sick looking tattoo today of a dragon on my arm so did my lil 6 yr old cousin!....... Too bad after my morning shower it will be gone! lol

chels thats your opinion,,, opinions dont matter,, scriptures matter,, i could say breaking the law and murdering is okay as long as i murder non christians and say iam doing it for God,, that doesent make my opinion right.
chels. - 5/3/10 @ 5:52 PM
1 Corinthians 6:20
20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
You are glorifying God with your body in the form of a tattoo...its in the scripture that says to honor God with your body. You cant do that with a tattoo??
justin, a lowly slave of Christ. - 5/3/10 @ 8:25 PM
your taking scripture out of context, if you read ALL of corinthians youl see that by honoring God with your body; he means for you to keep it clean and pure.
2 Peter 3:16 (New King James Version)
16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
as did puthisbloodon it did with matthew.. until all is acomplished pertained to the very subject matter he mentioned in the previous sentenance the earth amd heavan being no more.. thats what has to be accomplished for the law no be no more. when he said "it is finished" on the cross he was talking about he paying for our sins, not about heavan and earth being no more. other wise he would of said "all is accomplished" also he said "it" not "all" ... it is one thing.. all is all things.. all things have not happend (especialy and obviously heavan and earth still in existance) they will be until revaltions time period.. after rapture 2nd coming ant-christ and all of that. the Law still stands.. if you say that the law doesent stand then not only are you trying to justify tattoos but Beastiality,Pediophilia, and many other sick and twisted things that wer only in the torah.. funny how everybody has avoided the acknowledgement of that .. as long as you say tattoos are okay you also say that sex with animals is okay as well..
and before anyone trys to throw a haircut remark. or for the dead or sumn back at me i suggest that the go back and read ALL my previous posts cuz i already talked about it..
its scary how alot of christians nowadays seem to think that Grace is a license to brake gods laws..or a license to sin..
ppl seem to think that cuz we cant achieve perfection like jesus than why even try .. its not about picking and choosing laws its about doing every single law that we can do so that we might find favor in gods eyes.
the purpose of the law was so we could relize that we CANT fufill it ..but we still have to strive with a hole hearted effort..
Not getting a tattoo is a easy one.. if you know all that you know on this subject and yet still go get more tats.. IS that realy a whole hearted effort to please the father..
jerimiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
dont rely on your own heart or thoughts rely on what the father has already spoken..
Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.
psalm 32:10
PutHisBloodOnIt - 5/3/10 @ 8:42 PM
Justin what dont you get about that Jesus came to fulfill the law and not destroy it? I mean its plain and simple! There are many things from old law Im sure you break everyday and dont follow but yet you say tattoos are sinful and say we should practice old testament laws but want to ignore the rest! Your picking and choosing and being hypocritical.
chels. - 5/3/10 @ 8:50 PM
I am gonna have to agree with puthisbloodonit...so say it is a sin, which I dont believe it is, God wont forgive us? I know you said nothing about this but Im just asking...
PutHisBloodOnIt - 5/3/10 @ 8:56 PM
ppl seem to think that cuz we cant achieve perfection like jesus than why even try .. its not about picking and choosing laws its about doing every single law that we can do so that we might find favor in gods eyes......... there is a perfect example of you being hypocritical saying its not about picking and choosing laws its about doind every law we can! Sorry but thats like saying you dont think you can follow certain laws so u dont practice them but you do the laws thats easy for you to follow....Your picking and choosing you contradict yourself in just that one statement.
chels. - 5/3/10 @ 9:04 PM
I for one know Im never going to be perfect, therefore I shouldnt even try. it doesnt mean I am going to rebel against God in every way possible, but hey I sin, everyone does, and the fact that people are against tattoos, dont make sense to me. They think its a sin, do they not realize they sin as well???
justin, a lowly slave of Christ. - 5/3/10 @ 9:53 PM
justin what dont you get about that Jesus came to fulfill the law and not destroy it?
well if he came and said its still stands himself, and he said he is not here to destroy it.. this means the law still apllies to us, we should still follow it.
from old law Im sure you break everyday and dont follow but yet you say tattoos are sinful and say we should practice old testament laws but want to ignore the rest!
i have not ignored ANY old testament laws i have chosen to follow every law to the best of my ability everyday in my walk. and if i brake one i repent and try harder to discontinue the practice.
i dont understand how iam being hypocritical. i choose to follow all of the word of god that i know to the best of my knowledge apllies to me.
and to say iam picking and choosing the only way that you might know this is if you knew me personaly and was a witness to the way i live.
@chels question
i cant say what god will and wont forgive. iam sure if you lived your life with jesus as your true lord and savior.understanding the full meaning of both, that you will not be judged by your inequitys(transgressions/sins) but by your good works, for that is what i know from scripture.but somone who defies the teachings and professes jesus as savior but does not understand the lord part and chooses not to be christ-like in there walk they might hear mathew 7:21(21-23)
i mean it even says LAWLESSNESS in some translations.is that no plane enough for us??and thats out of NT,
sorry but thats like saying you dont think you can follow certain laws so u dont practice them but you do the laws thats easy for you to follow....Your picking and choosing you contradict yourself in just that one statement.
i choose all laws i do my best to uphold them all.easy and hard.i strive to be christ like with a hole hearted effort. i do not choose some to live by but all. and i fall short
romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
i was just implieing that its understandable to come to the relization that we cant always do all the laws. so says the bible. but we still are called to try everyday and repent every day for violation of them.. this is why there is grace.
but hey I sin, everyone does, and the fact that people are against tattoos, dont make sense to me. They think its a sin, do they not realize they sin as well???
i dont think it is a sin, I know it is, and my belief is scriptural. but for you to imply that becuz iam not perfect that i couldent determine the differance between right and wrong is absurd.
it like saying well justins a sinner who is he to tell me that murder is a sin. what does he know hes a sinner.(at least this is what i feel your trying to imply, please forgive me if iam wrong)

I think it's ok if it glorifies God. And that's my opinion as a youth leader in training. I want an alpha and omega sign on my left forearm as a reminder that I should be a God fearing man and "Ephesians 2:1-10" on the back of my right arm because that is the verse that touches most upon my heart.
Eric - 4/14/12 @ 4:26 PM
I think that tattoo's are fine. Its legalistic to think that if you get a tattoo that it is bad, not saying that anyone here is legalistic.
