Conversations with Non-believers posted in General on 8/5/10 @ 10:55 AM by Bee-Shizzle!

As a believer in Christ, how do you take up a conversation with others who dont believe, regarding salvation and the bible. How do you approach those who are skeptical? Do you continue the conversation or do you just change the subject? Do you try to prove yourself? I know that not every one believes, but it just hurts to know that they dont have faith.

Hi :) Well, I think everyone is different, and you have to go about it in different ways depending on the person and what they need to hear. But proving yourself wont help at all I think. Starting a debate probably wont get you anywhere either, not unless both of you agree to be humble and honest, vs. trying to prove your points. And if they are genuinely want to know, keep the conversation going! Answer them (there questions and non-questions) If they dont want to hear you, then keep quiet. As how to start a conversation with a nonbeliever, well, I think it depends on the situation, and who youre talking to. Sometimes God puts you in a perfect spot to talk about Him, other times you find youre just talking with someone, but the conversation will probably have nothing to do with God. But there is no harm in casually asking the person what they think about God. :) Either theyll hate you for it, think youre silly for asking, or be okay with it. If it didnt anger them, and if theyre okay with a continued conversation on the topic, then keep talking! :)

Also, being around people often, just the way you act and the decisions you make, are going to reflect God most of the time, and actions speak louder then words :) ....I say most of the time cause obviously were not perfect, but you know what i mean ;P

Very good stuff, O.0!

And i was going to say what you said in your second post. The greatest way to "change" someones mind about what they put their faith in is by love. God is love. And if they dont believe in God, then show them love! And if they dont believe in love, well...they have issues, lol ;P.. But in some cases, like if your trying reach out to family or people you work with and see often, then you dont wanna be all crazy and tell em to "turn or burn". Rather you want to SHOW them the LOVE of God. Through actions, and what you do when who think no one is looking..
On the other hand, when talking to complete strangers you dont have much time to show them the love of Christ! So you have to give them "something to think about". Something that they will be wondering about all day. Something that gets them really thinking about their lifestyle, and how their ways dont seem so "great" anymore, and how they wish they had a smile on their face like you did, and how they realize their missing something. You see, so many of us try to "convert" people in a minute while walking down the street. Yes, that is awesome and possible, but sometimes the best thing we can do is plant a seed. Thats all we, as Christians, can really do! The rest is between them and God. When talking to a stranger, YOU have to decide what to tell them, by analyzing the situation. But remember, it shouldnt be you talking, it should be our our mouth but Gods voice. When we get into one of these situations, we may feel intimated, but thats why we should be reading our Bibles and praying EVERYDAY, so we can be ready IN and OUT of season.

yeah, good point Japlace.

And two, youre gonna meet people who are not saved and who ARE having the time of their lives. So when they see that smile on your face or whatever, they wont think twice about it. But like Japlace said, plant a seed. And then pray for them :)

Be polite, tactful and informed. When you back up what you speak with what you do then people will be interested. Pray for them because the prayers of a righteous person avail much! Dont give up, but know when you are pressing in too hard.
Here is a great quote from the book called The Call:
P63"[Jesus]To know My wisdom is to know My times. You are not walking in wisdom if you are proclaiming Me to be a lion when I am a lamb. You must know how to follow Me as the Lord of Hosts into battle, and you must know how to sit with Me as the Lord of the Sabbath. To do this, you must know My times, and you can only know My times by staying close to Me."
You have to know when it is time to confront sin as sin, and when to show Gods love and mercy.

Rick Joyner. It is the most amazing book I have ever read! The Call is the second book of the series. The first and more famous one is called The Final Quest.
