Can You Lose Your Salvation? posted in General on 7/11/10 @ 10:50 PM by Emmanuel

Hey everyone. Ive been having a discussion with one of my brothers in Christ about this topic. I just want to hear what you all believe and have to say. I will state my views w/ scripture backing me up in due time. I will not name the brother, but I believe he will make himself known :P.

As for me:

I believe you can not lose your salvation, once you are TRULY SAVED. I will post my view on this and scripture to back up that statement later on.

Not according to Calvinists...

So for the Calvinist comments lately. I am studying them, so they are on my mind.

Personally, I think it would depend. If you are truly saved, the situation should never arise.

Well Calvinism should be saved for a whole other topic, I myself am aslo in a calvinism study aswell, and dont get me started lol.

What do you mean the situation should never arise? Us losing our salvation or a situation which may cause us to stumble?

Derrick - 7/12/10 @ 1:05 PM

I dont have much knowledge on calvanists...but i believe it depends on the person.
But biblically based only Gods children shall enter his kingdom...yet there are many parables that show that you can be saved..truly saved because your heart has changed, you have the holy spirit, nd your view of sin has changed....but take for example the parable of the 10 virgins.... 5 of them kept their fire burning and had extra oil incase of an emergency. The other five didnt have that extra oil. But mind you all 10 fell asleep. Which wasnt good. I would like to think all 10 were saved...but im not sure. I am still trying to meditate on that scripture. But honestly the five virgins whos oil ran out nd they didnt have anymore went out searching for more. But at that time it was too late nd the bridegroom had already shut the door...nd there was no way those girls could get in....smh! I think the oil represents grace through faith. nd because they were not working on their faith like you do when you work out a muscle...because the bible says to work out your salvation with fear and trembling i think thats why they were left behind...

So It all has too do with what road you are on. I guess...Because the narrow road requires ALL your attention. But the wide road allows you to spiritually be3 drunk and unconsious. so the only reason you need your salvation is to be good with the father...nd be able to enter into his kingdom. Although you have the holy spirit...i think it is possible to be rejected on the day of christ return. because it is said everyone on earth will be judged according to his deeds. God will spit you out of his mouth if you are luke warm. Nd I can understand how some people including myself can act stupid and try and throw away their salvation. Because they are not thinking. Nd for anyone considering to throw away their relationship with God for a sinful lifestyle they should know that it is the same way the esua gave his birth right away for a bowl of lentils(sin) nd when it was time to recieve his blessing(entrance into the kingdom of God) he could not recieve it even though it was rightfully his(first born child) he gave it away(indulging a moments plessure) and could not recieve his blessing(entrance into the kingdom of God) even when he came to his father in tears

oh nd another thing there are scripture that would make you think that people dont lose their salvation...for example the scripture that says "Know that the work God has begun in you he will bring out into completion until jesus return"

but i think God was saying this to those who are strugling with sin not those who willfully choose it. nd Jesus said that "can two walk together if they do not agree?" So obvciously you have a choice on which team you gona be on satan or God.
nd another thing that Jesus says is that we are the salt of the earth(referring to the saved ppl) but he continues to say if the salt loses its flavor what can make it regain it again?????? Nd i believe that is true its impossible to bring the flavor back to salt once it is gone...but I believe this scripture is true too
For with God nothing will be impossible...Luke 1:37
I think that you keeping your salvation depends on you! Because God has told everyone what his terms of peace are...nd we need to make sure we get right on jesus terms of peace...because beffore he came to earth as lamb now he coming back as a lion. So we got to get prepared

first, i think we should discuss what salvation is, what it means to be saved, and when exactly are we saved.

salvation means "the saving from all evil, within and without" - right? yeah that sounds like the salvation that only God can offer, so id say so. but who alive today is free from all evil, within and without? not me, at least.

being saved means you are saved, right? but though it is present participle, how unchangeable is it to be saved? lets say i have a little pet who is gonna die unless i give it medicine. i give it the medicine, thus saving it from death. thus, it is saved from death. then a hawk swoops in and.. well its not saved from death anymore. so being saved is one thing, it means youre saved - but from what when we speak of it? when we speak of it, we mean being saved from hell. or, being saved from eternal death. so lets redo my little story, same thing but different wording. i have a little pet who is gonna die the eternal death, unless i give it medicine. i give it the medicine, thus saving it from eternal death. thus, it is saved - from eternal death. then a hawk, aka the devil, swoops in and well my little pet isnt saved anymore. this makes sense with a little pet, but no, it doesnt work with us christians when speaking of God saving us. why? because no one can swoop down and snatch us out of our Fathers hand. thats all that text means. thats all being saved means. it means no one can touch you, and you are on your way to heaven rather than hell, which is eternal death. it means no one can touch you, and you are not going to die the eternal death.

ok, and when exactly are we saved? when we accept Jesus & repent of our sins, give up our lives and follow Him. wow that sounds like we have to do a little more than just have faith, right? nope. having faith is all we have to do - however, the faith that God requires of us is faith that will automatically move us to repent of our sins, give up our lives and follow Jesus. the faith that God requires is faith that would change us as a byproduct of its own existence within us.

so, do we all see eye to eye on things..so far?

jake - 7/12/10 @ 1:54 PM

Why would you not lose your salvation? If you reject Jesus gift, you dont have a gift. Your no different from the world other than you had a few years of peace.
If I give you my car, and you take it and drive it, but dont like it and give it back, is it still yours?

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 7/12/10 @ 1:54 PM

ok a lot of that is gonna take rewording lol but im ready for whatever you guys have to say

Derrick - 7/12/10 @ 2:01 PM

but Jesus says that when you have the holy spirit he stays with you forever...nd in ephesians it says that the holy spirit is our seal to let us know we will enter the kingdom of heaven. Soooooooooooooooooooo????

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 7/12/10 @ 2:46 PM

guys, please answer what i said.

yes you can have the Holy Spirit in you, but it is rejecting the Holy Spirit that is known as the unforgivable sin - so, you can have it in you forever, and He wants to be in you forever...but you can kick Him out.

any seal can be broken. note the book of revelation is about breaking seals.

Derrick - 7/12/10 @ 2:57 PM

yea i think we are getting closer to getting on the same page..but thats not the unforgivable sin....no
You have to take it in context
*lolz im qouting from a friend who wrote on yahoo answers*

"In the context of that statement, Jesus had performed miracles, and the Religious leaders had mocked, saying "He is casting our demons by means of the demons".

In other words: Those miracles that Jesus performed, by means of Gods Holy Spirit, they credited to the Devil.

By doing that, they blasphemed the Holy Spirit.

Blasphemy is defined as:

A contemptuous or profane act, utterance, or writing concerning God or a sacred entity.

The act of claiming for oneself the attributes and rights of God.

An irreverent or impious act, attitude, or utterance in regard to something considered inviolable or sacrosanct.

Those religious leaders mocking Jesus, and the Holy Spirit ,was indeed Blasphemy."
