Is it good to preach about hell? posted in General on 6/30/10 @ 4:49 PM by Derrick

Just wanting to start a thread...lolz.
But really...If you warn the world not to go to hell and instead choose heaven...most will choose heaven. Due to the fact of self-preservation as paul washer says. I think The Best and most effective way to evangelize is to build relationships with people..And show them and tell them that their life of sin will not satisfy them and never will and only jesus will satisfy them. And simply being the best walking buildboard for christ we can be. Letting God daily mold us and shape us into his son jesus chrsit

Right. I agree.
However, dont discredit the weight of hell. I know people who found Jesus because they wanted to avoid hell. It is good to point out, however Im more leaning usually to the sacrifice and tell them that they shouldnt have to go to hell instead of telling them that they are bound for hell and need to turn around. Its just my style i guess.

Jesus himself even talks about hell, was it his focal point all the time? no,but he did make sure to make it a point that hell is real and is not to be taken lightly.

Sarah - 6/30/10 @ 6:56 PM

I agree with the guys. =)

Me - 7/1/10 @ 2:46 AM

I agree with you all, I evangelize the same way as you, RS, but I also just point that hell is real.

Emmanuel - 7/1/10 @ 4:17 AM

Jesus talks about hell more than he talks about the kingdom of heaven.

Me - 7/1/10 @ 4:23 AM

But if we only speak about hell while evangelizing, we"ll only make the people flee.

Allison - 7/1/10 @ 7:23 AM

I think it is a good idea to talk about Hell because you cant sugar coat everything. We need to tell people that if they dont accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior then their ultimatum will be eternity in Hell. Yes, I agree with Corinthiens.13 that we cant just speak about Hell, we need to speak of Jesus too. But we need to let future believes know that Hell does exist.

Josi - 7/1/10 @ 4:33 PM

One of the most effective sermons ever preached was about hell. Jonathan Edwards "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" is credited for basically starting the First Great Awakening, and we definitely need another great awakening

Not to long ago i heard a radio interview with Jonathon Edwards.

Actually most people who was preached with the good news accepted christ because of fear with Hell, so instead of understanding the real meaning of being save and further knowing about the love of God. after accepting Christ and they are sure that they are safe from the limitles flame they will forget everything and will go back to ther old deeds, for me it is not bad to preach about hell, its also a good thing for them to know such information and its up to them how will they deal with that, if they accept the Good news because of fear its up to them, lets just pray that they really understand the role of being a true follower and dont treat Christianity as "Fire Exit"(- -)

My thoughts on it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiEwBUuABdA

@Josi
I credit Jesus for the great awakening! haha and the next one to come, but i understand

When I speak to people, I tell em about Hell, but usually in the context of Jesus saved you from Hell.

Josi - 7/14/10 @ 8:29 AM

@jake, yeah i agree only God could have started it, but i just mean thats what Johnathan Edwards is recognized for. like God used him to start it...or help start it... you know...

Andrew - 7/14/10 @ 8:35 AM

I agree with with Jakes view here is a good analogy it think http://www.city-data.com/forum/christianity/576708-why-you-wearing-your-parachute.html its about how Jesus is like a parachute and if you dont tell the people about the bad with the Good and only tell them the good most people will wear him a while and when they are teased take him off.

lailah kristine - 7/22/10 @ 12:47 AM

I think it is all right to preach about hell. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior after hearing what He has done for me and I also feared of going to hell if I wont. It is very important for people to know that only faith in Jesus Christ can save them, not good works or religion. But they must know the consequence of rejecting Him, as written in the Bible, eternity in hell. You can not accept Jesus Christ only because you fear of going to hell. There must be faith on it. Then it is our responsibility to study Gods Word, know more about God and grow in faith for us to continue on our Christian walk. =)

jay.me - 7/23/10 @ 6:46 AM

Is it good to preach about hell?

As in the eternal burning hellfire doctrine?

Are you 100% sure that is the truth? How much time and effort have you put into researching it for yourself, praying to God about it?
I say no....Unless you want to be spreading lies about God.

PutHisBloodOnIt - 7/23/10 @ 6:53 AM

@jay so do you believe in hell but just not a physical lake of fire? Or do you just do not believe in hell at all?

jay.me - 7/23/10 @ 6:57 AM

I believe in hell as the Bible teaches it, simply the grave...the lake of fire is another word, it means the "second death". --It is different from the grave(hell) because there is NO hope of a resurrection from the second death.

PutHisBloodOnIt - 7/23/10 @ 7:14 AM

Ok I see, I view it this way does it matter if their really is a lake of fire or just simply a place your soul goes forever without the presence of God? Because bottom line you are sepearated from God eternally their is no happiness, only suffering for eternity! So whether "hell" is in the grave as you think or a burning lake of fire as some think or whatever you believe, does it matter? The ultimate torture is seperation from God forever and that we can agree on is real. So maybe this thread should be changed "is it good to preach about speration from God for eternity".
