you were "called"? posted in General on 6/30/10 @ 10:10 AM by daniel@seekGodnow.org

i dont really understand this whole "called" concept.

honestly, it sounds like a bunch of bologna (bill-o-knee, the stuff that goes on sandwiches..lol)

i never got a phone call from God saying, "hey daniel...hi, its God... ..calm down... Calm down.......... ok, Id like you to become a missionary, ok? thanks!"

or anything like that at all. i used my senses to figure out that im supposed to be a missionary, and anyone else can use their senses to figure out the same thing. never in the Bible does it say "wait until theres something you feel like doing, and go do that!"

but no, instead, Jesus said to all of His disciples with ALL AUTHORITY IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH, for us to go out into the world and spread the gospel, teaching people to obey everything He has commanded and all that neat stuff.

but a lot of you like to say you Will be doing that through your nurse or doctor or something else field. what makes you think that? do people call the doctor for a sermon or for their bodys wants/needs? do they need a nurse for their soul or for bodily care? this is just body stuff, but people arent bodies. people are lost sheep, needing God.

this is what Jesus said:

" You are my friends if you do what I command." - John 15:14
"If you love me, keep my commandments" - John 14:15

ok, so what are Jesus commandments? preach the gospel unto ALL nations. plain and simple. this quite obviously means were not supposed to set up base camp and have a nice house and then be a doctor or something, just going into the hospital every morning helping people with their everdying bodies, and then supposedly spreading Gods word without our mouths. comon, you Know that unless you Own the hospital or unless the hospital is christian, youre not going to be able to so easily preach or even pray right in your doctors office or right beside your patients bed.

how do you expect to convince anyone to give up their lives for Jesus if you arent even willing? becoming a doctor is something you do Because You Want To. you want the pay, you want the nice outfit, and neat experiences or whatever else it is that makes becoming a doctor seem better than becoming like paul. you Want to become a doctor - it isnt a special calling. there are gifts of the Holy Spirit, yes, but none of them are about medical school.

so try and tell me that you arent becoming a nurse or a doctor or an electrician or a soldier for yourself. try and tell me youre doing it for Jesus because He called you to do it. then show me that in the Bible.

He calls _Everyone_ to become a missionary - no that doesnt necessarily mean we all leave the Untied States by tomorrow, that is always assumed but i never say that, but it does mean to go out and spread the gospel unto all nations - and we can definitely start here.

He calls everyone to become a missionary. no one is called to dance or become an electrician or whatever.

read this please:

Luke 9:57-62

57. And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow you anywhere you go.
58. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has not where to lay his head.

doesnt this mean that Jesus is homeless? doesnt this mean, "if you want to follow me, you will be homeless" ?? and Wasnt it written for us to read?

59. And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go you and preach the kingdom of God.

see how important it is to follow Jesus and not just go and do what you want? who, becoming a _doctor_ will become a missionary? how can you say you spread the gospel if youre job is to heal broken bones and such? that is your _job_.

61. And another also said, Lord, I will follow you; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
62. And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

really think about all of this please, im trying to help you.

as a doctor/nurse/whatever, you will never - while on the job - spread the gospel More than heal broken bones and such or whatever ti is that you signed up for. it just wont happen. and even if it did happen, did Jesus say He wants most of your life or some or half or what?

no.. _all_ of it.

Matthew 10:32-42

32. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

realize it wont be so easy to confess Jesus before men if youre a doctor working in a secular hospital.

33. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

youll be forced to value one over the other.

34. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

that is, Jesus words - including the ones we are reading now.

35. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36. And a mans foes shall be they of his own household.
37. He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

and id assume that he that loves his secular career more than Jesus is not worthy of Him.

38. And he that takes not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me.
39. He that finds his life shall lose it: and he that loses his life for my sake shall find it.

did you see that? it says he that FINDS his life shall lose it. how do you find your life? it sounds like these secular "callings" are really everyones own "finding." like i said above, nobody ever gets a phone call, but all the scripture is ready in the Bible.

tell me please, is this what Jesus wants when He says for us to follow Him? this below:

Matthew 4:17-22

17. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18. And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19. And he says unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20. And they immediately left their nets, and followed him.
21. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

i dont think He said "you can stay fishermen, but spread the gospel too" and i dont think He said "you can stay fishermen, but be christian fishermen!" and i am completely certain that He did not say, "you can follow me later, whenever youre ready"

no, none of those things. Jesus wants us to follow Him _now_, so spread the gospel. you can figure out how.

and Please please please please please do not try and tell me that if God wanted everyone to become missionaries, then oh no who would they missionary to if everyone is a missionary? well God is very smart. Hes smarter than me and you and everybody else, right? lets act like it then. God is completely aware that most of you will ignore this, that most of you will disregard it saying youre fine, and that most of you will prefer to keep your life than give it up Entirely.

so when He says to His disciples, "go unto ALL nations and spread the gospel" He knows only a few are listening. He knows whether youre listening or not.

you can say "well, doctors are needed!" and "well, nurses are needed!" and "people like to see me dance, its needed!" and whatever, but who is in charge? who do we serve? who is our Lord and Savior, Master and King? not mankind, not the world. this is what Jesus said was needed:

Matthew 9:37-38
37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

please stop pretending that living for God is a part time job, that giving your life to God is a part time job, and that dying to yourself doesnt include denying secular callings. its not at all about that.

if you believe i am wrong, show me with scripture please. i dont want to argue with the thoughts and opinions that are of man, but anyone seeking the truth will understand everything im saying.

thanks for reading!

Well, this is very round about.

You are correct. Living for Christ is a full time job. In response to your original question, as in the one where you doubt people are called, I have but one response.

If one is talking to another, they have a relationship, do they not? And so if one has a relationship, they must communicate, true? So what makes you doubt that Christ talks to us who have a relationship with Him all day every day? Surely if you do have a relationship with Him, He will at some point or another speak what He wants you to do?

That is why I believe people say they are called to one career or another.

Emmanuel - 6/30/10 @ 10:25 AM

I agree. When you quoted Luke 9:57-60

"And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God."

When Jesus said let the dead bury their dead, he meant that unsaved people can handle matters such as burying a corpse, only a saved man/woman can preach the Kingdom of God and drop their secular lives. So when people say we NEED doctors, im pretty sure there are millions of unsaved people who are doctors, or w/e other profession that can handle it. Im nobody to tell anyone what to do, I do plan on becoming a full time missionary myself however as soon as God delivers the road for me to take, hes already instilled in me the desire to give my life up for Christs sake.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 10:26 AM

my relationship with Jesus isnt with my mouth but with my heart, and the same goes for everyone else. i dont have His phone number and ive never gotten an email from Him telling me to become a missionary. but He wrote a book a long time ago and wrote everything He wants in it - and that is to go into all nations and spread the gospel, etc.

so tell me, how will you do that if you become a doctor? how will you do that if you become a nurse or an electrician? how can you "go unto all nations" if you work in one building? how?

try and tell me you can, but you know you cant unless you quit your job. but do Not try and tell me that its ok to not answer this call to "go unto all nations and spread the gospel" that Jesus very obviously made out to all of us.

its called the GREAT commission. not the optional commission.

and if you love Jesus, its pretty mandatory.

PutHisBloodOnIt - 6/30/10 @ 10:28 AM

What is the gripe here? What exactly are you focusing this thread on? Break it down for me please using a shorter post lol thanks!

Me - 6/30/10 @ 10:32 AM

Your own nation is a nation too, in which you can spread the gospel.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 10:33 AM

here you go PHBOI:

Luke 14:25-33

25. And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26. If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27. And whosoever does not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28. For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counts the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29. Lest lest by any means, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30. Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31. Or what king, going to make war against another king, sits not down first, and consults whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand?
32. Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy, and desires conditions of peace.
33. So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsakes not all that he has, he cannot be my disciple.

and

Matthew 28:18-20

18. And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19. Go all of you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit:
20. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 10:33 AM

ya your _NATION_ not your doctors office or neighborhood even

Emmanuel - 6/30/10 @ 10:34 AM

Daniel didnt say you have to ship yourself to another country, but that you can spread it here aswell.

Me - 6/30/10 @ 10:34 AM

Doctors office and neighborhood is part of the nation

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 10:37 AM

you should understand what i mean.

Jesus said to spread unto all nations - meaning, not pick somewhere to live and just be happy and do a doctor thing. He means everywhere. not just whereever youre comfortable, no.

and in a doctors office, you cant spread the gospel unless you own the place. in your neighborhood, you can - but your neighborhood may not listen, then what? then you try the next neighborhood! and then the next! etc, you keep going and going and going until you die, heaven is vacation.

jake - 6/30/10 @ 10:42 AM

I own nothing in my barracks. Not even myself (as i am literally government property). But I spread the gospel. Maybe not with massive tangible results, but I sure hope the Lord is pleased with my efforts. Ive been here for a while and remember:

Isaiahs 50 year ministry. He got nothing accomplished in the physical, but getting sawed in half in a hollow log. Mission accomplishment is not necessarily correlated to raw #s, but obedience.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 10:47 AM

you gave your life to the government, jake. you said so yourself

PutHisBloodOnIt - 6/30/10 @ 10:49 AM

I get what your saying but you can always pick up your cross daily wherever you go! Stay at home moms have one of the most important jobs EVER! They raise their children and teach them about God and the word! Say for instance a stay at home mom raised two children and they grew up to be followers of God and as the children grew up they helped many people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and when the mom dies and goes to heaven she has tons of people thanking her and she has no reason why until one man comes up and says you raised great children of God in which your children helped spread the word of Jesus and thats why we are all here in heaven! Do you think God will be upset cause she was a stay at home mom? Never ever under estimate Gods ability to use any of us at any given time no matter what our job is or what we do in life. Jesus was a carpenter himself.

Emmanuel - 6/30/10 @ 10:55 AM

Im not sure they will be thanking her in heaven, otherwise she would have a reason to boast. The only one anyone will be thanking is the Lord.

PutHisBloodOnIt - 6/30/10 @ 11:03 AM

Ofcourse Emmanuel everything we do is only done through the strength of our Lord, but because of free will and her choice to stand strong in the Lord and teach her children to become great spreaders of the word her children helped those people to know Jesus. Its not a true story just a scenario my friend.

jake - 6/30/10 @ 11:06 AM

haha your smokin if you believe that! My life belongs to Jesus. He loaned it to the government so that I could reap fruits and what an awesome and worthy king He is for His order to enlist!

Stop trying to put me down for my ministry.

The NaMez ShawN - 6/30/10 @ 11:09 AM

Im not getting into q debate/argument on this because I know their will be sides, but:

First of all, you can fully live your life serving God while also working a secular career..as long as every action and decision you make is glorifying God. You also cannot come on here and say that every person who desires to work in some sort of field is solely doing it for themselves. We need Christians working in secular fields that show the people of this world that you can live your life differently.

We need Christians to be in positions to make money so that the Church body has money to use for things such as outreaches and to help the needy in a tangible way. Not everyone will receive the Gospel through evangelistic tactics/words. Im sure that many people would just blow off an evangelist right from the start if he just went up to them and started talking.

If you think that every Christian can just become a missionary walking around all over the world speaking of the Bible on the streets and expecting more people than already possible to accept Christ you have got to be kidding me. They would think that we became a ridiculous cult of some sort. Most people want nothing to do with homeless people, and dont really care to hear a message from someone they do not have already have a relationship with as the Gospel is so much more than words.

As Christians we already have it hard trying to show the people of this world that it is worth living as servants of God, you really think we will be able to get them to sell all of their belongings and live as homeless people? No way.

And also Im sorry but I think it is crazy to say that the people of this world are supposed to handle every job that exists..and that Christians are not allowed to do any of them but must all travel as homeless people? The world would just be more filled with itself and we would lose so many opportunities to be a witness for Christ as many people show Christ in their work places and would not be able to do that as a full-time missionary. Not everyone receives the Gospel in the same way.

There are tons of church bodies who are growing and changing their communities for Christ and you are basically saying that they are all wrong and not doing what God says they are supposed to do. As they are all wrong and you are right.

Also, I believe that the human race is not capable of successfully operating on the human body (such as a surgeon/doctor) without the blessings of God. Of course medical school teaches you to an extent..but properly operating on someones back or heart is so much more than schooling. Why would God give people talents and not want them to be used? Also, someone such as a doctor can use their skills to travel as missionaries doing medical work and spreading the Gospel in that way. You sure wont be able to go over to third world countries and help to heal all of the sick and physically hurting people that you see..as their are tons of them.

"I do plan on becoming a full time missionary myself however as soon as God delivers the road for me to take, hes already instilled in me the DESIRE to give my life up for Christs sake." - Emmanuel

Emmanuel - you just said that you have a DESIRE to become a missionary..that God has INSTILLED in you the passion to do missionary work. How can you say that everyone else should desire to do the spread the Gospel the same way as you. That would be what people refer to as a "calling".

"Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." - Psalm 37:4

Yes..I did state my opinion..and I didnt really use scripture to back it up..
but sometimes you have to think and be realistic. You cant expect to reach the masses if were all completely separated from them.

Emmanuel - 6/30/10 @ 11:10 AM

Im more than aware that was more than likely a story lol. But Im saying I dont believe the woman would be commended by anyone besides the Lord for doing what he told her to. Lest like I said, anyone should boast.

The NaMez ShawN - 6/30/10 @ 11:15 AM

Your basically trying to say that if a devout disciple of Jesus Christ has an option to be in a high political position, etc., that they shouldnt because it would lock them down and they wouldnt be able to continue traveling around the world spreading the Gospel, etc. That doesnt make any sense..we have to own the environment that we are in!! Relational discipleship is so key! Dont get me wrong, many should be full-time missionaries..but its just not realistic for us all to.

The NaMez ShawN - 6/30/10 @ 11:16 AM

That was to Daniel, not Emmanuel.
