birth control (any form) posted in General on 6/29/10 @ 9:17 PM by daniel@seekGodnow.org

this is what i believe: Any person making efforts to thwart the process of reproduction, whether it be by the use of science & chemistry, mathematics, force, or any kind of different method(s), whether it be because of human selfishness, imaginary inconvenience, illicit actions, or more than one of these reasons, is putting his or herself at the same level of the Designer by interfering with His original plans, is lacking the vital faith needed that God will bless, provide for, and take care of those who seek Him, is denying his or herself a living blessing from God, and is denying the God-given gift of life to the one(s) who should be born into the world so that they may know God, turn to Him, love, serve, and please Him.

wow all this silence!

glad we agree on things!

Lex - 6/30/10 @ 12:36 AM

Actually, that kind of opened my eyes. I always wondered how, when I got married, my wife and I would prevent having kids in the first few years of the marriage. I would ike to wait before having kids and enjoy selfishly the company of my wife without children ;)
If God wants you to have children, HE WILL GIVE YOU CHILDREN. We shouldnt have to worry how to prevent them, when all we need to do is prayer. Talk about a test of faith!

Emmanuel - 6/30/10 @ 12:41 AM

Thats good that it opened ya eyes lol. The truth tends to do that to those who are seeking it.

Its like 1 Corinthians 1:18-For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

When you want to truly know the truth you will find it, when you look for a reason to justify your wrong, you will take anything that suits you.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 1:13 AM

wait lol, joshua im not sure i understand what youre saying. youre not gonna try and prevent pregnancies? or you expect God to force you to have children if thats what He wants?

Lex - 6/30/10 @ 9:12 AM

No, what I mean is that I am willing to put faith into the fact that God will bless my wife and I with children when we want them. Granted what we want differs from what we need, but the fact remains:
If a couple asks of God to bless the beginning of their marriage without children, no doubt with faith, He will certainly bless them if it so be His will.
I mean, if God can cure AIDS by prayer, to which a friend of mine has personally witnessed(not on himself), then surely He can withold a pregnancy. If in any way I am wrong in my statement, then rebuke away brethern :)

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 10:21 AM

well, theres not something so much wrong with your idea as there is with your intention.

as you realize already, its selfish to want no kids. it is also not a good idea to pray for an easy life, ever. God always wants us to pray for strength.

but i think that to ask for God to withhold blessings (children = blessings) isnt a good idea anyway. if God calls children a blessing (He does), then id think it kind of offensive toward Him to ask Him to withhold them - especially for selfish reasons, for comfort, for freetime, as though this life is for that.

heres the verse:

psalm 127:3-5

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

so, though i completely understand wanting to just be alone with your wife at the beginning of your marriage (i feel the same way, but i am complying with what i believe in this post), i think its a better idea to just tell God "Your will be done, not mine" and just be happy with whatever happens

jake - 6/30/10 @ 10:31 AM

Well I believe that the contraceptives (ie condoms, the pill, and penicillin ( the cure to most STDs)) are so rampant today. Its ridiculous! It promotes sex outside of marriage. Not ok, thats a sin.

Abortion is always wrong. I believe at least.

However in the context of a marriage bed, I believe that you can have sex with your legitimate spouse and not want kids. God designed sex and if it was ONLY for reproduction, im sure it wouldnt be so... euphoric (or so im told lol)

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 10:43 AM

it isnt ONLY for reproduction, but that is part of what it was originally designed to do.

right?

did God make the reproduction part "optional" or did man - evil mankind! - do that?

jake - 6/30/10 @ 10:46 AM

It most def is for reproduction lol.

However where does it say that it is wrong to have sex for pleasure (with your legitimate spouse)?
Actually Paul says that it is wrong to deprive the other of sex for anything, but mutually seeking God. So I think its ok. And yeah, what makes it seem like it is not optional to have kids?

psalm 127:3-5 is not saying its a commandment to have kids.

Emmanuel - 6/30/10 @ 10:52 AM

its not so much as saying not to have kids or not to have kids, its more of why deny a blessing from God with a contraceptive.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 12:27 PM

and its more about who is in control.

if you are TRYING to control God by preventing pregnancy or dashing past it somehow, you are messing with where God is sovereign

John - 6/30/10 @ 12:49 PM

this is what i have always believed: firstly, that sex with a person other than your wife is wrong. so birth control of any kind wouldnt be needed before marriage. but when i get married i want to be able to wait a few years before i have children. not because i want "freedom" for a few years, but because i want to make sure we have enough money to take care of the children. kids are expensive and i want them to be able to have everything they need (notice i said need...idc about the latest baby toys etc. but i want to cover the needs). so in order to facilitate this delay in having kids, some kind of birth control would be needed....and that is my 2 cents.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 12:52 PM

@john,

marriage is to start a family with your wife.

if you cant afford to start a family, then you ought to delay marriage, rather than delay the kids

John - 6/30/10 @ 12:54 PM

marriage is to be joined in the most intimate way with someone you love. you dont have to start a family if you are married. and i am not undermining God, i am praising him for the knowledge he has given science to figure out how to delay conception.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 1:01 PM

delay conception?

nono, this PREVENTS conception. God invented conception - so you ARE undermining God.

John - 6/30/10 @ 1:22 PM

i disagree. God made the grass and made it to grow. is cutting grass undermining God?

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 1:32 PM

God gave us dominion over the grass and adam was to tend to the garden of eden.

wheres your real thinking? you know humans are naturally evil, not growing grasses

John - 6/30/10 @ 1:37 PM

i already told you my real thinking...i see no sin in it. i checked it against the 10 commandments and against the commandment that Christ gave to love others and God...i dont see were it is a sin.

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/30/10 @ 1:40 PM

proverbs 3:5 - Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;

this is where its sin.

it is Not trusting in the Lord. it is leaning unto ones own understanding.

who is it that decides when conception occurs? God.

who is it that gives us everything we need? God.

so if we are Trying to prevent conception because we dont think we have enough of what we need to take care of kids - what is the problem? we arent trusting God.

John - 6/30/10 @ 1:43 PM

there is a great difference between undermining and not trusting...and this is more of a weak faith issue and not a sin...but i have a few years before to do some faith push ups before i need to worry about kids :)
