First of all, sorry for my bad English. I live in Switzerland and I speak French :-)
I dont know if its the same in the USA, but in Switzerland, many christians believe that if you pray and God dont answer, its only because you havent prayed enough, and if you pray enough, then Godll answer.
I dont agree with them. I think that God has plans for all of us. If we ask him something that didnt fit with Gods plans, then hell not change his plans because we prayed a lot. Hell apply his plans (and we may think that he didnt answer) or hell do nothing. In all case, he could support and help us, but hell not change his plans because we ask him to do so. I think God do what he wants to do, not what we wants him to do, and what he wants to do is always the best for us.
Id really appreciate to have your opinion on this :-)
God bless

greetings from America
wow I agree with what you said. I also belive that in most issues where you striving to obtain something for the kingdom of God whether it is spiritually or a practical thing. You need faith! And the way I see it we can never as christians say God has not answered a prayer. Because how can faith go unanswered? you know what i mean?
=))

Yes, I agree with you RS, we need to have faith, and God will answer, but not always in the same way as we asked him.
daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/22/10 @ 3:11 PM
God definitely does not always say "yes" to prayers. His answers are "yes" "no" and "wait" - whichever He chooses is the best for us.
in matthew 7:7 when Jesus was saying to keep asking for things and keep looking and keep knocking, to keep praying - He meant to not lose faith... thats it.

Just imagine if everything we prayed for we got! Chances are we would be miserable! When we pray we should ask the things we want followed by telling our father but your will be done! Bottom line is he knows whats best for us and Im willing to trust him than my own flesh and blood!

Hi Corinthiens.13!
I think you are right, all of you actually :) God knows what is best for us. Either Hell answer our prayers exactly the way we asked, or Hell answer them not the way we asked. It all comes down to what is best for us, because God cares about us more than anything! We dont know what is best for us, not like God does. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations that are not great, but God may use those bad situations and turn them into good, or use them to grow us further in His ways. So if we prayed during those bad times for God to take the bad stuff away, but God KNEW that that bad situation would in the end be good for us, than of course He isnt going to take the bad situation away. It really all comes down to what God wants for us. We cant change Gods opinion, because His opinion is truth. Prayer isnt to get what we want, I think prayer is for us to interact with God, to benefit us in that way, and then see how GOD answers our prayers! Sometimes God does give us what we want, but other times its what He knows is better for us. I actually recently read this quote, by someone named St. Bernard, it read: "God will either give us what we ask, or what He knows to be better for us." :)But having said all that, we SHOULD pray continually about all things, God tells us to in the Bible. And like I said, prayer is for us to interact with God, to benefit us in that way, and then see how GOD answers our prayers! (not how we wished He would) :)

Heres what I found.
Mark 11:24 Tells that we have to be faithful:
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Matthew 6:10 Tells that it has to fit Gods will:
your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
James 5:16 Tells that we have to be righteous:
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
Luke 18:1 Tells that we have to be persistent:
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
So, when we pray for something, we have to be faithful, righteous and persistent if we want God to answer, and what we ask must fit Gods will, else he isnt going to answer the same way as we asked him to.
Now its time for me to go sleep, its one a.m. in Switzerland =D

"No" is an answer, we may pray sometimes and not get what we want/need. But No is definitely an answer. I dont recall where, but Paul was praying to God to be healed of the issues with his eyes or w/e. Dont recall the exact scripture verse but God didnt do it. Showing we can ask and be told no. And dont worry bout ya english, even us americans cant type properly a lot of the times! :P

Well, check out 2 kings 20. Its the story of king Hezekiah. He was told by a prophet that he will die soon. The Lord heard his cry for extra life and He granted it to him, but then Hezekiah was stupid and showed off his storerooms to "Berodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon" which resulted in the Babylonians taking it all.
sometimes we can pray for God to move against His will. We must follow the Spirits instructions on our hearts
Sometimes we are supposed to pray for God to move. ie. Amos
Israel clung to five distinct sins that the Lord hates
1 Idolatry
2 sexual immorality
3 corruption of the judicial system
4 exploiting the poor
5 Pride
from chapter 3 to 7 it is God telling Israel and Judah that He is going to obliterate them. But in chapter 7 verse 2-3 Amos pleads God to stop and GOD CHANGED HIS MIND!
We can pray for God to change His heart, thats one of the coolest things in the world, the Lord loves us so much that one man can speak to Him and change His mind b/c of His great love for us.
Look at Sodom and Gomorrah from chapter 18 verse 24 to verse 33, God listened to Abrahams cry for mercy on the two cities and God even allowed him accompanied by two angels to survey the city, which almost ended in disaster (well i guess it still did, but no so much for Abraham. lol)
Then again in chapter 19:21, Gods heart is changed.
We can change Gods heart! He loves us so much that He allows us to make a decision like a loving dad would allow his child to make supervised grown up decisions.
We serve a good God

i pretty much agree with everything thats been said here :)
yeah, no is definitely an answer (for example, before Jesus was to be crucified to prayed to God that he wouldnt have to go through it, but God knew what was best, so His answer to Jesus was basically no). and sometimes things just take longer, too :) but God always answers prayers in some kind of way shape or form

Salut Cor. 13! Bienevue C28 forums! Je suis Americain, mais je etudie francais de luniversite.
I hope my French was correct or at least understandable! lol.
Yes. I believe that God answers prayers with "yes", "no", "maybe", or "wait".
Vanessa - 6/22/10 @ 10:37 PM
I agree with most everything that has been said. God answers prayer with: yes, no, or wait. But I do think we should be diligent in praying anyway. We should have faith that the things we NEED, are in Gods will. Our prayers should always begin or end with asking that His will be done, though. And I also believe we should thank Him for what he is going to, not just what He has done. That shows faith when we believe that He will work.
Me - 6/23/10 @ 1:34 AM
I agree with you all. God answers with Yes, no or wait, and no is definitely an answer. And the most important thing when we are praying is to be faithful.
Kirsten, your French is easily understandable ;-)

Oh, it apparently replaced Nintendo. Whatever. Stop interrupting, TIMBIT!!!!!!!
I agree with Vanessa. We do need to keep praying, because sometimes God uses our prayers to fight the devil, or whatever you want to say. In the book of Daniel, when he asked God for wisdom on the EndTimes, God didnt answer, so he kept praying and praying, and finally God answered. It was also revealed that a battle had been going on between Gods angels and the devil and his followers; Satan tried to prevent God from answering Daniels prayers, and God used Daniels prayers to fight and conquer the devil and answer Daniel. So we never know what is going on...we just need to keep praying and trusting--and know that sometimes the answer is "No", or "wait".
