What would you do? posted in General on 6/12/10 @ 11:09 AM by the_underdog

i just studied a piece of art, and it touched me. this was before and in fact was the reason why the american flag cannot touch the ground.

a flag was laid on the ground. the short end was flush with the wall and above it laying on a shelf was a blank book. in this blank book, viewers were to write what they thought the flag should be treated like. in order to write in the book, you had to step on the flag. it caused huge controversy and obviously led to many court battles.

the question is what would YOU have done? stepped on the flag to write down your opinions, disgracing the flag? or not stepped on the flag foregoing your right to be heard? it comes down to the choice: freedom of speech or pride in ones own country? which is greater?

Pride of ones country is far greater in my opinion.

Although it would be a black and white battle. no grey areas because if you stepped on the flag to voice your opinion, u obviously dont have much respect for your country.

It makes me sad to think of someone doing that to my flag. Im very proud to be an American.

What do you think of this? personally it makes me sick...

wow thats powerful... Id be pretty livid to see that in person to be honest

I would not step on the flag and I feel that by not stepping on the flag that would be a clear sign of what I thought without having to write anything in a book. Just my opinion but sometimes ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THEN WORDS. God Bless!

God is the God of the entire world, not just our country.

Pride...(proverbs 16:18)

"Opening his mouth, Peter said:
“I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him." (acts 10:34,35)

So which is greater pride in your own country, or love of God and neighbor?

Well I would simply pick up the flag and find someone around and tell them that this flag accidentally must have fallen from somewhere! Then proceed to write my thoughts

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

a lot more: http://www.bible-topics.com/Pride.html

pride is a real bad idea.

why should the flag be treated so special like the Ark of the covenant? am i less valuable than a flag? people let me touch the ground.

id write that the flag should be regarded as a flag?

i wouldnt avoid stepping on the flag to avoid "disgracing" it, but i would avoid stepping on it simply because thats kind of rude. it is not sacred, by any means, nor should it be to anyone.

I could not step on our flag. It is complete disrespect.

@Daniel
Dog, its everything that you as an american stand for. Where in the bible does it say to be unpatriotic and forsake your countryman? chill

jay.me - 6/18/10 @ 6:39 PM

I am not into flag worship.

jay.me - 6/18/10 @ 6:40 PM

@jake what exactly does an "American" stand for?

daniel@seekGodnow.org - 6/18/10 @ 6:42 PM

i dont, as an american, stand for anything american - unless you want to pretend that "freedom" is an american thing. all freedom is granted by God, if it werent for His love - thered be no mankind at all.

this is a very bad country. id rather not discuss it on here, where people are more interested in proving each other wrong than learning. yes, "america - love it or leave it" - and i will leave it soon.

Only possession I find worthy of that is the Word. Anything else is just something made in this world, from this world. I respect the military due to its authority, but in a fallen world I cant put my faith in anything but God. Believe me all yall military on this site, I come from a military family myself got brothers, friends, my father, etc. in/served in the military, so believe me when I say I love you all and appreciate what you do, and do not dislike what you do, but the orders from command. So yes Im grateful that the Lord would allow me to live in this country, but I do not like how the leaders of this country treat their soldiers like pieces. (Uh Oh, 1 more gone, lets replace him/her-satanic)How can I love and respect that? The longer until were raptured the worse off this world will be, this world is just setting itself up for Revelation right now >.<
