Alpha, I have the answer to one of your qustions... hope it helps. posted in General on 5/12/10 @ 7:35 AM by Cody

Okay, your first question that brought you to disbelief was if their is truly a God, why is their so much pain and suffering in this world... I lost sleep over this answer yesterday so bare with me dude. My answer; and it may not even be the right one, but my answer is this.
Most people look at God as an old guy on a rocking chair saying "Oh, I love you children all soo much! You befowled my name? Well thats okay, heres a cookie." But if you are going to give God a humanly image at all it should probably be the face of Zeus and the body of Arnold Swchartenegger x10, and this God would hold a shotgun and say "Get off my f***in lawn unless you have a lawn mower and some gas." This is the same God that tore down an entire city simply because they ticked him off... He flooded the entire world because it ticked him off, and finally he got fed up with destroying his creation and decided to have Jesus, the hippie son who was and is and always will be the perfect son in Gods eyes. He was created to be set as an example for us to follow and many of us have followed his example (or tried) for more than 2000 years.
So after all that, why does this God who seems so ruthless let so much pain and suffering happen? He lets it happen because he doesnt care. Why should he care about how life goes here, if he has an eternity of happy living promised to those who follow him and a pure hell for those who dont ask for forgiveness. His hell is wy worse than any suffering that can happen here and his heaven is more happier than anyhting you can find here on earth.
you see, youre looking at life on this earth as if its important but its nothing caompared to what is promised... thats why he allows it.
So if anyone wants to mark this as inapropriate go ahead... but if you look at the old testament which we do follow still, this is who he is. Jesus is the nice guy who died so that God would forgive us when we truly ask for it. He is a fearsome God for a reason. He is the almighty and the all power. He is the Alpha and the Omega...
Either way Alpha, I already know you have found tons of different arguments to pick out in this and thats fine. If you have a question than I will answer it but if you want to argue it I wont, and yes I do realise that nowhere in here did I prove the existance of God for you, but thats something that cant be proven. You can only have faith in it. But, I do hope I atleast gave you the best or at the very least, I gave you the most interesting answer that you have ever heard.
And again, everyone feel free to mark as inapropriate if what I said was wrong...

PutHisBloodOnIt - 5/12/10 @ 8:03 AM

Cody! Let me tell you there needs to be more people like you walking this earth! The fact that u lost sleep and wanted to try and help someone and took the time to answer their question even though given the reputation of Alpha and to a complete stranger shows you have great love for your fellow man! Love the fact that many will never give up on Alpha or people who share the same views of alpha. I know your younger and have never met you but I feel your gonna do great things for the Lord in your lifetime my friend!

Cody - 5/12/10 @ 8:06 AM

lol... Im just glad nobody has found it too offensive lol... I was worried I was being to blunt about it all

PutHisBloodOnIt - 5/12/10 @ 8:26 AM

Well its an interesting answer for sure lol one thing I will just add is that sin entered the world through man, God did not bring sin, death, bad things in the world etc...So everything evil comes from man not from God we basically doomed ourselves! Jesus was the answer to the problem man brought into the world! That would be my short answer to the question.

Cody - 5/12/10 @ 8:31 AM

yea, but his question is why doesnt God just get rid of the sin and that is what I think I answered.

Japlace - 5/12/10 @ 8:34 AM

God isnt what people think, and you did explain that very well..BUT

"Get off my f***in lawn unless you have a lawn mower and some gas." - Cody
This is not right...
Please, please reconsider the manner in the way you think God would speak... He BREATHED the stars into existence.. He would ABSOLUTELY NOT resort to appalling words..
And God was ticked off, He was disappointed in man because they disobeyed Him. He was being just. He set a law, and they blew it off. Therefore God whipped them off the earth! lol. He is JUST. (and yes, His consequences and the way He carries them out are like Rambo 27. cept ^100!!!)
All im saying is that there was no need for that word. Blanking parts out does not lessing the meaning or the intent.

Cody - 5/12/10 @ 8:49 AM

I can see where your coming from and I can agree it probably wasnt the best way to say it. Its a trik in speach. It draws attenion. which it obviously did and it keeps the reader wanting to know what else is said... So I do Apologise, like I said, it was a bit offensive, even for me. lol

Japlace - 5/12/10 @ 9:13 AM

And ic where your coming from.. but there are other ways to draw your reader.
Have you heard of the Appeals?
Take the Appeal of Logos for instance. It is the logical appeal that is the strategic use of logic, claims, and evidence to convince an audience of a certain point.

There is the the Appeal of Ethos. Which is an ethical appeal that is used to establish the writer as fair, open-minded, honest, and knowledgeable about the subject matter. The writer creates a sense of him or herself as trustworthy and credible.

And there is the appeal that i think you were trying to use. It worked, but you can considered other means to make it work lol. this is the Appeal of Pathos. Which is an appeal that target the emotions of the reader to create some kind of connection with the writer. Since humans are in many ways emotional beings, pathos can be a very powerful strategy in argument. For this same reason, however, emotional appeal is often misused...sometimes to intentionally mislead readers or to hide an argument that is weak in logical appeal.

These appeals can be applied to any writing or argument :) obviously you have already used some of them, for its a good way to get a point across lol.

Cody - 5/12/10 @ 9:21 AM

lol yea i have. like i said i get what you mean. there probably are better ways to do have written that but its too late to change it now lol dot dot dot... Im amazed Alphas sixth sense hasnt called him to the forum yet lol its usually like he knows his name has been mentioned

Alpha - 5/12/10 @ 10:28 AM

Fascinating. :) Nothing I havent thought before, and certainly not something I agree with...but still very interesting.
Youre okay with everything in this life being just a test? Every joy, every pain...its all insignificant? Everything in our lives is inconsequential aside from "choosing God?"
Im not okay with that. :)

Oh, and it sounds like Clint Eastwood is playing God ;)

Alpha - 5/12/10 @ 10:32 AM

"And there is the appeal that i think you were trying to use. It worked, but you can considered other means to make it work lol. this is the Appeal of Pathos. Which is an appeal that target the emotions of the reader to create some kind of connection with the writer"
-Along with some good ole Shock Value lol

"Im amazed Alphas sixth sense hasnt called him to the forum yet lol its usually like he knows his name has been mentioned"
-My sixth sense was a little drowsy this morning ;)

Cody - 5/12/10 @ 10:42 AM

I got you to say it was interesting! lol I feel accomplished for that. lol But yea, I am okay with it and thats my opinion and I know I cant change yours. I knew I wouldnt be able to. I simply wanted to answer the question for you the best that I could. Though, I wouldnt say it makes this life insignificant, but even more meaningful because it gives us purpose. in my opinion, that is, and many others opinion, infact.

p.s. Gran Torino, great movie.

Josi - 5/12/10 @ 5:57 PM

wait wait wait!!!!! youre saying God doesnt care?????? have you not read a single passage of the Bible? Do you "have ears but do not hear"? what about John 3:16? FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY SON, THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES HIM SHALL HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. "Jesus is the nice guy who died so that God would forgive us when we truly ask for it"????? you have to be kidding me!!! Jesus is Gods last resort to bring us back to Him because we would not believe His prophets, because we would not turn from our sins, we needed them completely atoned for. Christ is more than just a nice guy, HE GAVE HIS LIFE TO SAVE US!!!!! If you want me to give verse after verse after verse let me know and I will, because I WILL NOT SIT BACK AND LET SOMEONE SAY THAT MY GOD WHO GAVE HIS LIFE TO SAVE MINE DOES NOT CARE.
Why does God allow so much suffering? because He allows free will and to not allow the suffering would take away our free will because we cause the suffering by the choices we make.

Last thing, why in the world am i the first to correct him on this!?!?!?!?!? Do you all really think that God does not care? Please pick up a Bible, as a matter of fact I will get all those verses after verses after verses and post them on here.

Josi - 5/12/10 @ 6:20 PM

all caps for emphasis:
Exodus 33:19
And the LORD said, "I will cause all my GOODNESS to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have MERCY on whom I will have MERCY, and I will have compassion on whom I will have COMPASSION.
Exodus 34:6-7
And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the COMPASSIONATE and GRACIOUS God, slow to anger, abounding in LOVE and FAITHFULNESS, 7 maintaining LOVE to thousands, and FORGIVING wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation."
Psalm 144:3
O LORD, what is man that you CARE for him, the son of man that you think of him?
1Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under Gods mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him BECAUSE HE CARES FOR YOU.
Exodus 3:7
The LORD said, "I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR SUFFERING.
Matthew 17:23
...May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have LOVED THEM EVEN AS YOU HAVE LOVED ME.
1John 4:9
This is how GOD SHOWED HIS LOVE AMONG US: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

need more? let me know id be glad to give more.

Josi - 5/12/10 @ 6:24 PM

so lets see:
goodness, mercy, compassion, gracious, love, faithfulness, forgiving, care, concerned- how can you possibly believe that God, with all these characteristics does not care?? (come on! care is one of those!!!!) and all these verses are about God loving THE WORLD-US!!!!!!!!

Josi - 5/12/10 @ 6:42 PM

btw the only reason i have not marked this as inappropriate is because i want it to be corrected not just brushed aside.

happy_panda - 5/12/10 @ 8:20 PM

i agree with Josi... i just typed out a huge explanation but then it said i wasnt logged in and deleted it all x-x i might type it up again sometime...

Alpha - 5/12/10 @ 8:53 PM

"Why does God allow so much suffering? because He allows free will and to not allow the suffering would take away our free will because we cause the suffering by the choices we make."
-Youre still too close minded to even comprehend why that is a stupid conclusion.
According to you, God is all-powerful,(right? if not, Im sure somebody here thinks so) that means that he is the one who makes the rules, all of them...he can do anything, and make anything mean anything he wants...hell, hes God. That means he is perfectly capable of making a world that is suffering-free, and the ppl have freewill.
And any possible argument cannot face the trump-card of God being able to make anything he desires true.

Alpha - 5/12/10 @ 9:06 PM

"Though, I wouldnt say it makes this life insignificant, but even more meaningful because it gives us purpose. in my opinion, that is, and many others opinion, infact."
-Hmm.... the way I see it, if God put us here to blindly find our way to Him, then life is just a test...
And the teacher wont even show himself to us.
Its a test that we cant logically and thoughtfully determine the answers to.
Its not quite fair :)

"p.s. Gran Torino, great movie."
-Awesome movie.
