What Can One Person Do To Help The World As a Christian? Ideas? posted in General on 5/5/10 @ 9:05 AM by Cody

Im trying to find small missions I can do around where I live, just to make the world a better place and spread the word of God. I have started a town wide church concert to break the berriers of dnominination, Im going to paint the town clean, just meaning Im going to paint over all the graffiti in the parks and things and I plan to go to Wal-Mart every day this summer for one hour and help people put their groceries inside their car... But I want more. I think I can do better than that this summer. Place your comments... this could be fun. ^_^

Does anybody have anymore ideas???

Donate time at a local food bank.
I know its what the typical answer is, but there is no better chance to tell people about Gods Son then when people are hungry.

Cody - 5/5/10 @ 10:31 AM

I kinda want to but I want to do something outside the box, but when all else fails, i suppose the food bank would be the place to go. Thanks for imput!!!

Japlace - 5/5/10 @ 12:16 PM

ya, thats what i meant by its the typical thing to do for charity..(so is helping the old lady with her groceries;))
But its an amazing thing to do none the less.

Try and plant a tree on every street in your neighborhood? put a different scripture on a plaque for each one.

Cody - 5/5/10 @ 12:43 PM

That would be cool, if I can get everyone to want a tree in thir yard lol I like that one though.

Japlace - 5/5/10 @ 1:06 PM

Well, technically the land that is say by the sidewalk is the cities land. So contacting the city would be your initial action :)

You can do yard work for families that have loved one who are in the hospital. (or something of that nature).

Cody - 5/5/10 @ 1:12 PM

Yea! i thought about that one and I think I might do it like everyday for a week or something. I really wish more people were getting into this post but your giving out a ton of good ideas. Im hoping not only to get ideas from everyone but also spread the idea about volunteering. I just decided, I think I will do the yard work thing.

Japlace - 5/5/10 @ 1:23 PM

More people will post, bro. dont worry.

You have gotten me thinking about things i can do tho, so this thread is great.

Another great thing to do is pick up ALL the trash around ur hood, or town.

*remember, do all these things with a humble heart. dont do them for attention, or money. But do it with a humble heart. Your reward will be in Heaven. The last will be first, and the first will be last! :)

I had an idea of creating coupons called "good deed coupons" where one would design tickets with a bible verse on one side and instructions on the other and have them laminated. And what you would to is go out of your way and do something nice for a complete stranger and give them one of these coupons and tell them to do the same and hopefully it will keep going around the community and make a website where people can log into and share how they received the ticket and just see how far across the country it gets and view the good deed stories people have to share and how they received a coupon. Just an idea that I think would be cool!

Cody - 5/5/10 @ 7:41 PM

My biggest thing was not to receive money for it and if some one asked why I was doing it my only answer would be that its for the grace of God. And i LOVE! the coupon idea. Im moving to Denver in July so I think I might try it their. Right now I live in a little ghetto town that needs help as a community. Huron SD lol you wouldnt think it would be bad in a place like that, but their is much racism to new coming immigrants and the rest of the state describes us as a druggy town... so im just trying to help what I can. I cant wait until i get to denver though, that will be an amazing mission field lol put lighty

heh If more people had the attitude here, the world would definitely be a much better place. :)

Cody - 5/6/10 @ 7:52 AM

I know! Thats why I keep bringing the post up to the top by commenting lol

PutHisBloodOnIt - 5/6/10 @ 8:17 AM

Yeah I know how it is growing up in a rough neighborhood! I was born and raised on 8 mile in Detroit and I prolly witnessed and experienced things people would never ecounter in their life. Racism was and still is a big problem here and sometimes ya feel its hard to make a difference when there is so much negativity and evil around. But God is so much bigger than these things, best way I figured out was to kill people with kindness! The love of Jesus in us is way more effective than any gun or weapon on the street! All we can do is keep on fighting the good fight!

When i was in high school I spent 2 weeks volunteering at orphanages and old folks home in Mexico. It was the greatest and most humbling experiance I have ever had in my life. One day, I will take my kids and do it again.

Cody - 5/6/10 @ 9:12 AM

I grew up in South Omaha Ne lol it was a ghetto but it was full of love. Omah is split into 3 parts. North O which is that scary ghetto place where you hear about the shootings and south O where I lived was awesome because it was so diverse and it had the attitude be friends with everyone and you wont have trouble and then you have West O who just has tons of money and is kinda the rich neighborhood lol i moved to South dakota last year and Im moving again in July to denver....

On another note, I might have to try an orphanage. I love kids, it would be great if i could help them. And thats awesome that you did it in mexico sandra. that must have been amazing!

best thing you can do is give up your life for Jesus sake and for the sake of the gospel. shoulder your cross, set aside your selfish ambitions, and follow Him. teach this and live this - nothing else matters.

Japlace - 5/6/10 @ 2:54 PM

Thats a lil selfish, seekGodnow. dont you think?

Jesus spent His years of ministry serving others, not himself.
You say set aside selfish things, but how is servings others thru charity selfish?
Yes we are do find Christ, accept Him, and serve Him all our days, But! We are to help others on our way to His perfection.

"Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:34-40

Do a free car wash with free chips and drinks. No bible verses, no let me hold your hand and pray, no Do you know Jesus, no donations. Just tell them you are giving back to the community and give them a business card with church info when they drive off. That will definitely blow there mind.
