Any good books you recommend? posted in General on 10/22/12 @ 6:10 PM by Princess of God

Hi guys! I used to be a huge book worm prior to becoming a Christian almost 4 years ago. Now, I hardly ever read any books unless it is the Bible or any spiritual/Christian books. Sometimes I feel like reading something different, like a romance novel or even a non-fiction novel, but I do not want to expose myself to read secular material.. it just doesn't sit well with me. :P

Which books do you recommend that are written by Christian authors but have interesting topics, not necessarily Bible studies - it can be anything. I am looking to purchase some books and get into the habit of reading again. :) Thanks!

Lately I've been reading Stephen R. Lawhead. The only ones I've read by him are about the story behind Merlin and Arthur (which you'd think might be boring with all the historical stuff, but they are sooo good). And it's really cool because the author is a Christian and manages to put a Christian twist in it.

Also Ted Dekker. If you're looking for mystery/thriller type books; Three, Adam, Bride Collector, House are all really good. His fantasy fiction The Circle are some of my favorite books (there are 4).

I'll have to think of some more! :)

I don't know of any romance novels, if you go to Barnes and Noble they should have some good ones in the Christian section. Ted Dekker is a good one and also Frank Peretti.

Frank Peretti just came out with a new book called Illusion. I haven't read it yet, but it should be good!

Spirit in the Sky - 10/25/12 @ 10:58 AM

Animal Farm by George Orwell; not a Christian book, but a very easy, clean read about the abuses of power

With Love On Your Arms - 10/26/12 @ 11:12 AM

Redeeming Love
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Where the Red Fern Grows

Ted Dekker, Ravi Zacharias, Tim Keller, John Piper.... any of these authors I would recommend, with confidence, any book they have written. I have not read them all, lol but they are my listed of Theologically sound authors. Ted Dekker writes Christian fiction and you can pretty clearly see Bible references woven throughout the story. :)

Anything by Francine Rivers, Lee Strobel is a good one, R.T. Kendall for Christian living, and Robin Jones Gunn if you're a younger female.

Do Hard Things
Start Here
Both by twin brothers Alex and Brett Harris.

Sarah - 11/3/12 @ 9:35 AM

"Why I Jumped" by Tina Zahn. If you want to understand a bit more about suicide, depression, and abuse, this is a great book--as well as being a huge encouragement for those who have never struggled in the areas mentioned. There is a great reminder of God's unconditional love in this autobiography.
