Have you ever... posted in General on 11/2/09 @ 5:44 PM by Jacob R. Collins

Have you ever told a bill collector about Jesus?
Or when a homeless person asked me for change I told him he must really want it, he was like of course I really want it, then I told him that there is change in Christ and started preaching to him. I didnt do it to be mean but he needs God so I tired to give it to him. And I bought him Carols Jr.

How did he respond? I remember one time on a trip we saw a women and her kids with a broken down car on a highway, we stopped, helped her with her car, and gave her a Bible.
Another time there was a homeless person who we got a giftcard for and gave him a Bible. I myself didnt personally do those.

Jordan - 11/2/09 @ 7:42 PM

Thats cool. When I see homeless people I like to make sure I offer them food- not just money but yes food. Bibles are great to give if you get the chance too. :/)

Jacob R. Collins - 11/3/09 @ 8:09 AM

the first time I was with my friend and he did that and the homeless person said he was going to punch him...
Then I talked to someone and he just stood their telling me how much he needs Jesus, that he will call on God when he has a house money and a car and a job, I was just telling him that God can give him that and more but he just wanted to try it on his own. I still see him around and keep trying to preach to him.

Silence - 11/3/09 @ 9:22 AM

Did the person actually punch him!? There are little million dollar tracks that someone at my church drops around at places, because it looks like money people always go and pick them up and read them.

happy_panda - 11/3/09 @ 6:38 PM

rofl thats so nice of you to do in the first story XD hahah and you bought him carls jr XD

i always want to give something to random homeless ppl... but i dont want them to spend it on drugs or something X_X"

Jordan - 11/4/09 @ 6:43 AM

@happy_panda- haha ya- COOL idea! But... if your talking about homeless or poor people, where would they play it? (I like that idea tho)

Jacob R. Collins - 11/4/09 @ 9:32 AM

Thats would be kewl, the person didnt really punch my friend, but people know him for being a little weird. One day, while he was pushing a cart, he turned around and started beatting up the air, their was no one by him, he was cussing and swinging at the air. hmmm... a little weird, but I have no doubt that he would punch my friend.

Jordan*Hester - 11/16/09 @ 8:17 PM

That sounds like a guy that lives in my city (idk if hes homeless or not) but he always walks around doing karate moves and push ups and stuff, lol. I call him "The Karate Guy".

Alpha - 11/18/09 @ 6:45 PM

Id consider it rude to preach to someone if that is not what they are asking for.

Though in the case that you actually help them with food or money, they do(to an extent) owe it to you.

Jacob R. Collins - 11/19/09 @ 9:36 AM

The way I see it, God told us to go out into all the world and preach the gospel, the world didnt ask for it, but we cant use that as a excuse not to preach. Im not saying force God down people throat, but if they dont want to listen to me, they dont have to. Its like the MTV thing, if you dont like whats on that channel, change it. I am in no way trying to bring correction or condemnation in any christian way, but I really think that is a dangerous way to view preaching to someone. In other parts of the world, Christians are dieing because they are not allowed to preach about Christ, but they dont stop because they fear death. Im sure that one day we will all meet someone that isnt asking for God, but by talking to me you are asking for God because that is what Im all about. For example I was in a debate with a atheist and we were talking about abortion. I was telling her that killing unborn babies is killing God creation, she was telling me to take God out of the picture for a second. She didnt understand that as a christian, Im all about God, Gods view of things is my view of things. I am not saying I have achieved some prefect follower of Christ medal, me and God dont always agree. But I try and make God my everything. Me and my family were not asking people to come to our house and preach to us. But if they didnt do what they did I know that I should be on drugs right know because at a young age I was introduced to drugs. I never smoked it than God and thank those that came to my door and stopped me from doing what I shouldnt do. I didnt ask them to stop me but I will never be able to thank them enough.

Alpha - 11/19/09 @ 7:00 PM

I understand your point. But when someone is asking for money, words arent very fulfilling.

But as I said, in the case that you actually give them money, it is only fair that they listen to what you have to say.

The NaMez ShawN - 12/3/09 @ 3:00 PM

I agree with Alpha on this, and I think its the approach that God has really called us to use. Jesus did call us to preach the Gospel, and to make Disciples in all nations. But, the Bible is filled with the idea that it should be done with love and compassion so fully that we truly do care about the ones were reaching out to. We can also preach the Gospel by showing the love that Jesus showed us. He didnt always just go out preaching His Word, he sometimes would just go out and be love. He showed how to be a follow of Christ and how to preach through our actions.
Also, this world is all about themselves.. and the world is stubborn.
If you dont approach the world on their own level, how they connect and communicate, there not going to want to hear what you have to say. It can even possibly push them farther away from God.
Unfortunately, we just have to suck up our own pride sometimes and give in to the world.
It may sound contradictory, but this is how we can win over the world for the cause of Christ!

The NaMez ShawN - 12/3/09 @ 3:03 PM

By the way, when I said "give in to the world" I mean that we have to communicate with them on their own level. Not by acting like them or anything of the such.

I also wanted to say that you can really show people you do care for them and begin a connection with them if you first do things for THEM before you expect them to listen to YOU. If you were treat a homeless person, or anyone else for that matter, like that mean something and are special, theres a better chance that they will be prone to what you have to say. Also, they may be curious as to what made you so kind and caring, which you can show them is your relationship with Jesus!

Alpha - 12/5/09 @ 10:26 PM

Someone agrees with me? The end must truly be near. ;)

Mason - 12/6/09 @ 1:26 AM

is it not all of our callings as Christians to spread the Gosple regardless if we give them what they are askin for?

The NaMez ShawN - 12/6/09 @ 12:48 PM

It is all of our callings as Christians to spread the Gospel, but there is a difference between solely spreading the Gospel and actually creating disciples and believers and followers of Christ. In this world today, most people dont want to hear that, so you have to create some sort of a connection or relationship with them before you can touch and affect them on the inside.

You think Jesus wants us to go around telling people the Gospel while at the same time letting it go in one ear and out the other? Thats pointless and he obviously didnt do it that way either.

Jacob R. Collins - 12/6/09 @ 9:41 PM

@Mason - is it not all of our callings as Christians to spread the Gospel regardless if we give them what they are asking for?

Mark 16:15 KJ
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

OK, Im going to be bold as to say we live in a politically correct world with politically correct Christians... Is it politically correct to go out into all the world and preach the word to all, no. But will you keep the word of God from those that are lost.

1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Not everyone wants the message of the cross because it brings correction and they know that they will have to change the way they live and people love their sin, sin goes against go which is why they are convicted. I know that I didnt want my sin to be exposed so I ran from God when I was a backslider, I didnt want to deal with the issue and nether do sinners. So do we just let them walk the way they want to walk, we cant make anyone turn to God but we should push. "Push? But that would be politically incorrect!!" Maybe so but morals should come first. It goes against my morals to just let someone walk in the dark while I have the light.
