Old Testament posted in General on 3/16/12 @ 6:57 PM by Nicole

Does this verse mean that we SHOULD follow the old testament unless otherwise spoken for? "Do not think that I [Jesus] have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18)"
He said he IS NOT coming to abolish the laws. And that nothing is going to disappear.

Also, in the same context, what about this verse...

"Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 'The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.' (Matthew 23:1-3)"

Hmm... just a thought. Anyone want to chime in?

Wrote a long answer about this topic on the other thread that Ariel started..... lol :P Not sure if it addresses everything, but at least some of what is mentioned here :)

Jesus didn't come just so we wouldn't have to follow the laws anymore and could now do whatever we want. He fulfilled the law because he was perfect and never sinned. We don't have to keep the law so we can be saved. We just need to accept the work Jesus did on the cross. Stephanie explained it pretty well on the other thread, too.
