Changing churches posted in General on 3/12/12 @ 5:46 PM by Spirit in the Sky

I know if I ask what do you look for in a new church I will get "sound Biblical teaching" as an answer, so instead I will ask what qualities or characteristics that would lead you to the door of a new church prior to knowing how sound their teaching is?

if you feel welcome when you enter the door. that's a really important thing for me:)

Nothing but the Holy Spirit can lead you to the door and keep you there, but as for the outerman that we are forced to work with... Usually nithing can bring you to the door because outside means nothing, just like us, but I am big on music and tend to enjoy worshipping with a contemporary feel, though worship can happen when my flesh says its a boring hymn. Also the church structure, I am nit too big on churches that require membership or have a screwy hierarchy of elders and deacons and pastors. Also does it seem the church is trying in itself to attract people or are they pleading with the Spirit.

Thanks for the replies both of you. I will take them to heart.

Certainly being welcomed is an important factor. That means the people of the church are excited about having new members. It also has to be important as soon as you walk in the door that you see people want to promote Jesus. Not any bands, any certain "look" or image, or anything else above Jesus and the Gospel.

Thanks KingsKid I think I may have found what I am looking for. I checked out their webpage and like their statement of beliefs and I like the fact that they have activities going on so I can get involved. I am definitely going to go to their Easter service and check them out!

That's great!

Pray about it. Ask friends where they go.
I really like it when a church can make me listen to what the pastor has to say with out me getting antsy or bored. If it really pulls me in and makes me think.
Also, see if the Holy Spirit is really present. You'll be able to tell.
Pray pray pray.

checkout and see what a church has to offer. Of course, the things that others mentioned are important.

Update: went to the Easter Services and was really encouraged by the sermon and the people there. Went to their regular service this Sunday and again the sermon was refreshing to hear. There are also some more superficial reasons why I liked it (can't lie), but there was way more to it than those.

The Lord always knows what we need and He never fails to provide!
