Are Tattoos Alright? posted in General on 3/19/10 @ 5:37 PM by Japlace

Hey yall! sooo im wondering what you guys think about tattoos...
I, personally, dont think they are alright. And basically my only reasoning for that decision is cuz we are to treat our bodies as the temple of God like they are, and putting ink into your skin seems like spray painting a church. Dont get me wrong, im not saying those who have tattoos are in the wrong by any means! Thats just my opinion, anyways, tell me what you think? -) <-- thats mr. alien face btw! lol

I am all for them. My parents have them, I plan to get them. Thats my opinion.

Japlace - 3/19/10 @ 10:47 PM

What do ya plan on it saying?
I always thought a arm tattoo would be cool, but idk lol.
What do you think about 1 Corinthians 6:19-20? "19Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

Daniel L. - 3/19/10 @ 11:26 PM

i do not think that they are right.

however, though i think it is wrong - many christians will disregard the Bibles teachings and get them anyway, regardless of their fellow believers views.

to me, sticking something into your flesh to make a permenant mark is the most obvious way to make your body impure, and to make it clear to others that you arent pure. not to mention it hurts - i do not think God gave us nerves which tell us if we are in pain so that we could tattoo ourselves in pain - i dont think were meant to hurt ourselves at all.

the whole thing seems quite against God, especially seeing how tattoos have mostly been used in history and even in common culture. a few people do "NOTW" tattoos or anything like that and they think that it is immediately justified. well at that rate, what cant we justify? its stupid.

it is completely obvious that if something offends me, people should not do it. it is way more obvious than that even, that if a christian does this, and offends me - that they are not like Jesus, not like paul, and definitely not christian overall.

a tattoo is very Of this world anyway, so its hypocritical, as many christians are.

if you want any scripture to support any of my views, God sees things like this too - so just ask

Michelleeee - 3/19/10 @ 11:27 PM

i agreee with you @japlace...

i honestly do know that our bodies are temples. i totally agreee with the scripture you posted... &you also should tink about the story of cain and abel. in Genesis 4... GOD put a mark on cain for murder... i know that doesnt say much, but the mark to GOD was something that signified what he had doneee..

Leviticus 19:28. (NKJV)
"28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD."

Revelation 14:9-11.
[9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”]

theres alot. but personally i think that the body is our temple is enough to persude me not to get oneee...

i was going to get quite a fewww as well. i had some planned out with my cousins (were best friends), i had one that included my mom, i had some that were just inspiring to me planned out too. then i got all those scripturesss. &GOD said no.. i can if i want, but if GOD says no, its no. ya knoww? hahha..so dontt get it twisted. i have nothing against tattoos, but because they are markings &against GOD, then of course, i wont do it...

they are a way to express yourself&creativity. but why not do it somewhere else&make it wholesome &making it a steady way to praise HIM. you might run outta space on your body, but there are many other places &ways to express yourself.

hopeeeeeeee this helps!!! [:

Michelleeee - 3/19/10 @ 11:29 PM

&the bible says not to conform to the ways of this world. &it seeems to meee everyoneee is gettng tattoos.

Japlace - 3/19/10 @ 11:48 PM

Right on Michelleeee! yes i totally know what youre saying.
You put into words what my mind was thinking! haha ;)
Ya like you sai, i dont have anythin gainst em.but, to me, Gods Word clearly says dont. :)

John - 3/20/10 @ 10:37 AM

i would just like to point out that this thread already exists...hahah

Japlace - 3/20/10 @ 10:49 AM

Oh, my Bad! haha. welll i re-threaded it! what noww!?!?! hahaha, jk jk :)

What do you think bout em bro?

John - 3/20/10 @ 10:57 AM

i have one. i am getting another over my spring break.
i know my body is a temple, and i know it is to glorify God. my tattoo says "Galatians 2:20"...which is "i have been crucified with Christ and no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life i lived in the body i now live in the spirit through Jesus Christ who loved me and died for me"
in regard to the leviticus reference... the tattoos of old we actual cuts in ones skin. you would cut you skin and peel it off to make scars... (google skin cut tattoos if you want to see what they look like) that is definitely self- mutilation. but the tattoos of today are very different. i think they are only ok if you are using them to glorify God. i am in a lot of sports at school..people see my tattoo when we are in the locker room. four of my non-believer friends have asked me about it and have picked up a bible because of it. i think this is a great thing..especially since one is muslim.

Japlace - 3/20/10 @ 11:14 AM

that is awesome that they have picked up Bibles! wow, Muslims are REALLLLY strict on what they read and do..! ya, i dont wanna look em up, sorry haha. What about Michelleees comment about not conforming to the world? do the other guys in yur locker room have secular tats?

John - 3/20/10 @ 11:20 AM

one guy...it is his name and jersey number...i think that is wrong..but yeah..not much i can do there.

Japlace - 3/20/10 @ 11:30 AM

ya what can ya do right? um so if this dude (im assuming hes not saved) has a tat, than isnt his right and justification for his tattoo just as good as yours or mine or anyones?

Crazy Rocker Barbie - 3/20/10 @ 8:05 PM

there is another thread on this topic with hundreds of responses (mostly responding to alpha but still haha)so you could look at that if you like. : )

Japlace - 3/20/10 @ 8:09 PM

lol :) yaa, John told me that. thank you tho! ya, my questions were answered bout it.
What do you think bout ink CRB? yay or nay?

John - 3/20/10 @ 8:58 PM

japlace...his tat is glorifying himself...i think they are only ok if they bring glory to God.

Alyssa Faith Mark. Rep - 3/20/10 @ 9:15 PM

I want a Timothy 4:12 tat. I am also going to get my family crests, with crosses.

Japlace - 3/20/10 @ 9:17 PM

ahh ic ic.
but God says dont conform to the ways of the world, and if he has one, then (even tho ur meanings are clearly different) what makes his self glorifying, and gives you the seal of Gods approval?

John - 3/20/10 @ 9:18 PM

well his is his name..so self glorifying....

Japlace - 3/20/10 @ 9:24 PM

ya i totally understand that, nut God says to not conform to the world right? and if you both get this same procedure done, then how is his tat any dif in Gods eyes then yours? (i know his is very prideful and self gloryfying, im just trying to see the dif, u know?)
Theres nothing wrong with your getting it, im just trying to find the difference between the same two of the same procedures.

Kasey - 3/21/10 @ 2:39 PM

I think if the tattoos glorify God, then theyre okay. They can be used as a reminder of God in your life, and they also can give many witnessing opportunities. I actually think if a Christian got a tattoo glorifying God, it would be way more a good thing then a bad thing. Yeah, so the world does it, but the rest of the world also wears clothes, wears makeup, etc. I think a nonbeliever would be more likely to become a believer if his Christian friend got a tattoo about God.
