Homosexuality posted in General on 3/8/10 @ 11:31 AM by Carmen

Im new to this board and actually got saved a month ago or so. Hi :). I have a really long question.... I have been stuck on the topic of homosexuality.. The Bible states it is sinful because God intended relationships and marriage to be between a man and a woman. I cant say whether they were born this way through genetic components, through environmental factors, or both. I wonder if it was genetic, why would God make them this way (If they are born this way and cant change, are they stuck with sin)? If it were environmental, why are there so many reportings that changing to become heterosexual is unsuccessful and is actually harmful (they only repress these same sex attractions and are not happy)? I have always been accepting of their lifestyles but now I feel it conflicts with Gods ways and I actually feel that I am opposing Him because my beliefs are different. :( I dont want to judge. I want to be loving but it is difficult to say that homosexuals are wrong to say they were born that way because I am not gay.. Im straight. I am ATTEMPTING to see it in the way as if someone were molested, they learned the abuse. Sometimes it happens that the victims abuse later in life for power and control because they felt they never had that. But they repress these urges because they are self aware that is sinful and harmful to do that. What do you guys think about this matter? I am not trying to offend anyone. Im just confused. :(

In the bible it does say it is a sin. God did not create them this way. It is a way of life they have chosen. That is my opinion. =)

Agree w/ Mad_Hatter. Its was easier to understand (at least for me) why things happen once I realized we live in a fallen world, full of fallen people.

I am be berated and beguiled against and struggle the life just to seek approval. It is not a sin it is proof that genetics is not perfect and that DNA sequencing isnot perfect. If there are people who can be their own twin, Chymeras, hemephrodytes, siamese twins and Idententical twins. Why cant it be possible that emotionally, chemically and hormonally a person can be one sex and and physically appear to be another. Tell me where exactly in the bible does it state that marraige was meant to be between a man and a woman everyone says it is in the bible but no one states exactly where, what scripture?

laura - 3/8/10 @ 2:33 PM

Being gay is not a choice. Your sexual preference comes from many components. Chemistry, hormonal, and your own genetic make up. No one wakes up one day and says I want to hide who I am be berated and beguiled against and struggle the life just to seek approval. Im not completely sure of this, but i think its actually been shown that genetic makeup has nothing to do with homosexuality. Also the Bible clearly says that it is a sin, so if you dont believe that, then you deny Gods word altogether, its either completely trustworthy or not trustworthy at all, because if only parts of it are true, whos to say which parts? As for where the Bible says that its wrong, and marriage is only for a man and a woman:
Genesis 2:22-24 "Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman, for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." -God created woman as a partner for man, not another man. Verse 24 shows that man and woman are to marry and become one flesh not man and man or woman and woman.
Leviticus 18:22 says "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable. "- It doesnt get any clearer than that. Leviticus 20:13 also states this.
Also Genesis 2:24 is taught by Christ and repeated in the New Testament several times: Matthew 19:5, Mark 10:7, Ephesians 5:31

Josi - 3/8/10 @ 3:01 PM

By the way, i said i wasnt sure about the scientific confirmation that homosexuality is not genetic, but I am completely sure the Bible is true and can be trusted, the Bible says its wrong, so it is wrong.

Tyler Justin Gallagher - 3/8/10 @ 3:09 PM

Laura... the Bible does not state that marriage should be between a man and a woman. It states that homosexuality is a sin. Your references are: 1 Cor. 6:9; Rom. 1:27.

If you read those and continue to deny that that is the biblical stance, youre in denial.

Since marriage is something God encourages in general, and homosexuality is a sin, it is clear that God would not consider a union between two men or two women a marriage. Gen. 2:24

Whether or not its a genetic thing (and if it was, it would be the only gene that directly affects choices, so the suggestion itself is a reach), were all born sinners. Homosexuality is a sin. Some people intend to make it less than that, and others intend to make it more than that, but it is treated in scripture like ANY OTHER SIN. Just look at the list its thrown in in 1 Cor. 6:9,10. Im not homosexual, but its not natural to put Christ first in my life, so I AM an idolater. Who cares if youve committed sins of homosexuality? Jesus came to make us COMPLETELY NEW in Him. He didnt intend us to sin, but we were born sinners. He can make us new, give us a new identity... if only we will deny ourselves, take up our crosses daily, and follow Him. DENY OURSELVES.

And that whole "they dont choose to be mocked, hated, blah, blah, blah..." Okay. Nobody likes to hang around a liar, either. If someone identified themself as a liar the way some people are proud to be homosexuals, theyd be disliked. If "liar-pride" movement swept the nation, people would get upset! Granted, a lot of people would take it too far. Many do with homosexuality. However, nobody sins because they like being condemned by those who disagree with them. That is NEVER the motive. But our job as the church is NOT to condemn them. Whose job is that? Jesus says that the only one who can condemn them after what He did is themselves. He DOES not condemn them. We CAN not condemn them. They condemn themselves because they do not put their lives in His hands. John 3:18

@Laura- If God had meant for a man to be with a man, or a woman with a woman, then God would have given Adam a male partner, not Eve. But God gave Adam, Eve and God married them, that is when God ordained marriage to be between a man and a woman.
Genesis 20-25: So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was asleep , he took one of the mans ribs and closed up the place with flesh. The the Lord God made a WOMAN from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, This now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called WOMAN, for she was taken out of man. For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

"Being gay is not a choice."
-Yes it is.
Granted, it can be very highly influenced by the events of your life; but it is a choice.

Carmen- You cant really think something is morally wrong, and be acceptant of the action; however, you can accept the person for who they are, even if you think theyre wrong.

On the other hand, if you dont think homosexuality is wrong...you may have chosen the wrong religion. :P

Paige - 3/8/10 @ 4:57 PM

Being gay is definitely a choice. some say it isnt, but just choose not to "act" on their feelings. to me, if they really just TRIED to be with the opposite sex, they would see how much better it is.
as on a Christian level, God made Adam, and then He gave him Eve. if it was supposed to be "gay", he would have given him another man.

Personally, I believe this video to be very enlightening!

"some say it isnt, but just choose not to "act" on their feelings. to me, if they really just TRIED to be with the opposite sex, they would see how much better it is."
-I dont really think thats how it is. People have natural attractions,(though, I doubt very much of it is influenced by DNA) and it is quite possible that they find homosexuality more attractive than being straight.
But in the end, we all choose how we act.

Paige - 3/8/10 @ 5:07 PM

yea, that makes sense.

Josi - 3/8/10 @ 6:10 PM

Plus the Bible says that marriage is not for everyone, so if they dont find the opposite sex attractive maybe theyre just not supposed to marry, it doesnt mean theyre gay.

John - 3/8/10 @ 7:37 PM

in response to that video:
of course animals will do that stuff. nature itself is fallen...that is why animals eat meat. that is not what God intended. there wasnt supposed to be death, grief, sin...any of it. but animals do not have free will. they cannot fight the fall. looking to the animal kingdom is obviously not a good choice when you consider the fall.

Along with the others posted...
(1 Tim 1:9-11)
"But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully,
9 realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers
10 and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching,"

Homosexuality is against Gods laws. Just because one has a desire doesnt mean its ok to act on it. We are all born sinful, and each one of us has weaknesses to fight against.

Michelleeee - 3/9/10 @ 12:05 AM

GOD is a GOD of choice... all of the scriptures ppl have given covered it all. read romans. that should help alot. but like it has been said, we are all born sinners. &we can choose to act on these emotions or not. ive learned that once you give into sin &temptation the next time it comes around it comes stronger to keep you in it&its harder to fight it...

Leviticus 26:18 (NKJV)
18 " If after all this you will not listen to me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over.
(you might have to read the whole context)

GOD does test you with trials&tribulations. &you have to fight. if someone hurts your loved ones your gonna fight right? GODs gonna fight for you so why not fight for HIM. sin is something of this world. we are all sinners. we are not sinners because we sin. we sin because we are sinners.

&choosing what to do with our lives is in our hands. but we have to remember that GOD is our creator&HE is in control overALL.

Stephen - 3/9/10 @ 5:38 AM

Amen. Well put Michelle and its true, God will put you through certain situations to see who and where your faith and your trust really is placed in. You actually see that a lot these days, you have people who are serving God in the church and in ministry, something doesnt come out the way they want or they feel offended because of something and they blame God or the pastor for it and leave God and the church entirely.

LittleMiss - 3/10/10 @ 10:59 AM

2 Timothy 3:16-17 says that " All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." This means that it was God who gave life and righteousness to His WORD. So if this truly is the word of God how can we go against what He commands, we have to take it in its completeness. Paul is affirming Gods active involvement here that it is so powerful and pervasive that what is written is infallible and has the ultimate authority. We cannot take just the pieces that are likeable or "socially acceptable," if we do that then we are denying the authority of God. People will say that this is intolerence and they are ABSOLUTELY right! We are not called to be tolerant of the sin that reigns in this world but to be a light showing the love of Christ and what He did for us.

Billy - 3/10/10 @ 11:27 AM

Dr. Michael Brown has the most accurate and practical information on homosexuality and the Bible. Check out his dvds they are amazing and you wont find yourself confused anymore. Reach out in love to the person, but resist the sin and the agenda at all costs.
