i think what matters is the bands actions, lyrics, and faith, not the style in which the music is sang/played.

agreed haha

We've circled around this topic before, but I'm of the belief that the content is what's important- not the style. I used to listen to screamo back in the day, but now it just gives me a huge headache lol. As with anything, I would still pray about the issue. Some people may say it emotionally bogs them down since it's not 'upbeat.' Ask God for wisdom on what He wants you to listen to.

Gabriella - 6/27/11 @ 10:08 PM

i agree with corro, but also with Sarah:)

haha and of course with Nicole than also!;)

Cody - 6/27/11 @ 10:21 PM

I think she meant Secular metal bands in the other topic and that does have a lot of dark stuff in it...

As far as Christian metal goes though I don't see anything wrong with it. If you go to some Christian rock concerts (Some are secularly terrible) but most are really great and you can really see that they are their to praise Jesus and his word and that to me is really awesome. It depends on the band but I love it.

Jon - 6/28/11 @ 8:47 AM

It is my favorite style of music, some bands (such as sleeping giant) have lyrics that are straight up Praise and Worship.

Ariel - 6/28/11 @ 4:48 PM

I think that anyone who says, "God doesn't like screaming/metal music" is full of crap. I've fought with my gramma numerous times on this...I'm like, listen to the LYRICS!!! It's the words and where they're coming from that matters, NOT the style of music. Plus, what about the people who only listen to hardcore music? Do they not get to experience Jesus just cuz they listen to that kind of music? This way Jesus reaches them too...maybe they're not Christian, but they're still listening to bands like For Today or something, they're still getting that bit of Jesus every time they listen

kaitlynn nicoleee - 6/28/11 @ 6:30 PM

ok i see cuz like my mom allways says it cant be christian just cuz the way it sounds but people have diff. tastes in music but they can still praise God.

thanks guys :)

Cody - 6/28/11 @ 11:50 PM

I cant remember but someone on here said that the hymns were similar to the drinking songs of that time... Idk if that is particularly true, but the hymns we have in those red books at church are definitely songs that were popular when they were written. I don't think its any different. God never said "Thou shall not scream their praises to me" as far as I know anyway

CraigSnedeker - 6/29/11 @ 5:38 PM

I listen to Screamo. Just depends on the heart of the band.

You really cant put God in a box. He can use all types of music. We actually got kicked out of our church 4 years ago, and were told our music was of the devil and was "Strange Fire" and were told to stop the band, or leave the church. We opted to leave the church, and God has blessed us more than you can imagine. To this day, we have the honor of spreading His word to thousands of people across the world. Please check out our latest music video called "The Witching Hour" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pRUxpHLrrQ over 6,400 plays in the last month and counting!

corro13 - 6/30/11 @ 7:10 PM

strange fire???

H - 6/30/11 @ 7:52 PM

I agree with My Heart To Fear (minus the self-promotion plug). God doesn't live in a box no matter if his believers try and convince you of that and believe it themselves. That doesn't mean all his followers will be into everything that glorifies him. For instance, I cannot stand southern gospel music AT ALL! I try and worship God to it when it's in my face, but I cringe inside regardless. Lyrics are what really bring me to a place where I am glorifying God and praising or leaning on him. I find that rock and metal styles fit my style the best. I love to go to a good Christian hardcore show. Aside from me enjoying it, it draws in a lot of people that may not go to any other type of Christian concert and may not know Christ themselves. I especially like it when I'm at a mainstream event and someone like "Red" or whoever starts praising God in the middle of there set. Jesus walked and talked with the broken and went where they were, so to think he lives in a box is not of God at all. Just my take ;-)

jake - 6/30/11 @ 8:41 PM

I like what you said Heather.
There have been many many accounts of Satan worshipers in Africa who have never been exposed to western culture, that hear some of our music and recognize the base beats with their demonic seances.
Members of the occult have been known to be in the background of an artist who is recording something while they perform a seance. Be careful and discern.
Also remember that before Satan fell He was the head angel of music...

Gabriella - 7/2/11 @ 12:23 AM

yes i also know Satan is hiding in music. but God is also in music. and HE is stronger. stronger than Satan, stronger than everyone, even people. they can say what they think, but it's God at the end Who make the decision if the music is good or not.

its God Who has to judge about it, not humans.

that's what i think.

jake - 7/2/11 @ 3:07 PM

that is a very wise thing to say Gabriella. And to take it one step further, may I say that we have the mind of Christ (God) and when we judge from the heart of Christ, we will know how He thinks about music and we will know what is good vs bad.

Cody - 7/2/11 @ 6:49 PM

A good way to put it is that Satan may be the ruler of the music or the leader or what ever but God made the music and at the time Satan worked for God as loyally as any other angel

Jude - 7/3/11 @ 6:25 PM

What matters is what the band is saying and their actions on and off stage. If you like this type of music search the band my heart to fear on facebook, they are a group of amazing guys that go out and play their music and preach God's message with soooo much enthusiasm.

Marshall - 7/9/11 @ 4:47 AM

@Heather HA i was going to post something like that
And metal isnt bad (if its Christian). Secular metal is horrible (ex. System of a Down) even tho people may say its not as good when its Christian its still pretty awesome
God Bless,
Marshall
