So this weekend I got my upper pierced. A single helix. I love the look! I'm going to get another piercing in my ear and a small cute little stud in my nose. Then I'm getting my hair highlighted purple all over this summer. (I lost a bet) but I'm stoked for this half of a makeover I'm getting in a month! (= I just wanted to ask you guys if you think it's wrong that I'm getting all this stuff done. I mean, the bible says to treat your body like a temple but I think God loves us no matter how we look. Feedback?

AWESOME!!! I dye my hair too. Im a natural blonde, but dye my hair black and red. Next Im going all red. I think it's fine! God looks at your heart, not your outside.
1 Peter 3:4 states: Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

Do you believe you would be offending Him by doing this with His body? *being that we do belong to Him*

wel.. nothing on with this topic, but Alyssa, i've a question.
you said, When Jesus died on the cross, the law ended. but how do you think than about the 10 commandments? they also where given during the time of the Old Testament.
would you say than that you also haven't to obey the 10 commandments??
i don't think that's good..
tell me what you mean!!
Nicole - 4/12/11 @ 5:50 AM
@Lex, I don't think He would be offended. I mean I think He loves me no matter what and I don't think a few piercings determines the measure of that. (= This question did get me thinking though, thanks!

I think the real question is why? What is your motivation? Is it gonna make you feel better about yourself, do you want to do it to fit in a little more? Are you doing it for attention? Will this stuff make you feel closer to God somehow? Also I forgot the exact verse but we are called as chrsitians to be very humble and to not attract to much attention to ourselfs, I remember a part of the bible where it talks about those who were wearing all kinds of flashy jewelry and clothes and draw attention to ourselfs. From your other post it seems your having a hard time with your friends and you live in a small community and your trying to fit in and change your outside apperance to fit in more. Do you really think God wants you to put a piece of metal in your nose and walk around with it? With some purple hair? Ask all yourself these questions and answer them yourself, ofcourse many will say its ok or its not ok but truth your answer you will find in the bible and your choice should be influnced from your bible. I think by you asking this question on here your looking for support and approval from the wrong people you should be talking with God about this.

nicole - Romans 14:13 If you do anything you believe is not right, you are sinning.
I believe this is a personal conviction. Many christians will tell you it is a sin to mark upon the body, and many will tell you it isn't. I know this forum has done mmmaaaannnyyyy threads on this issue. In the end, it is between you and God. If you don't feel it is right, then as Romans indicated it is a sin.
As for me, I have four tattoos, five ear piercings, a tongue piercing, and had a lower lip piercing but it fell out. I do not feel convicted (also all my tattoos are Christ related), but if I did feel convicted I would stop on the ink, and take out the piercings I felt wrong about.
hope that helps!
the_underdog - 4/12/11 @ 9:04 AM
bobby- agreed.
PS. but i think it is funny about the nose ring, in the era the Bible was written facial piercings actually proclaimed you were royalty and worthy of praise among the people. lol.
PutHisBloodOnIt - 4/12/11 @ 9:34 AM
Yeah I know and when I found that out I was like wow really lol I don't think tattoos or peircings itself are sinful but I think reasons and motives behind them can be and make it sinful. And some women just do not pull off some piercings like some look like it has a booger on their nose if u take a fast look or some girls with the monroe piercings it ends up being mistaked as a big mole lol
Nicole - 4/12/11 @ 9:56 AM
I'm not doing it to fit in. In fact, since my community is so conservative this would actually make me stand out more. I'm not doing it for my freinds or to feel accepted. I'm doing it for me, because I love the way nose peircings look and I love the color purple! It happens to be my favorite. So PHBOI - It is between me and God I just wanted to see what anyone else thought. I don't find this wrong or a sin. I think it's just a part of me like the clothes I wear or the shoes on my feet. If I wanted to ft in, in my community I would become a cowgirl and go live on a ranch. I would party and drink and all kinds of other stuff. But I don't want to fit in. And I don't think God wants me to fit in. He loves people of all shapes and sizes and different colors. I just think it's fun (=

Well if you say so and your honest to yourself, and why do you want to stand out and be noticed with physical apperance? Wouldn't you rather stand out by your actions, how yo treat people and your personality? Oh one more question if you happened to live out on some island by yourself with no one there would you still dye your hair and have all the piercings? Think about that it will tell you if your doing it for attention or apporoval of others.
Brandon - 4/12/11 @ 2:06 PM
I think anything you do to your body diminishes your perfect look. God made us in his image and he is perfect and beautiful.
Yeah, God loves you NO MATTER WHAT. Thats unconditional love! I don't believe in getting tattoos more for a personal or "social" reason rather than through the bible but that will probably change in the coming years. Its a sketchy area and ultimatly will come down to what an individual thinks about it most of the time.
I would love for you to take it out but thats because I can't stand piercings or tattoos. When I see face piercings I automatically think of "punks" and that gives off hostility to me.
Look to God always and he will guide you in the right direction.
Nicole - 4/12/11 @ 4:13 PM
@ PHBLOI - I am not doing this to stand out, I am doing it for me. Because I really just love the color purple haha, no joke, I could care less what makes me stand out or fit in and yes, I would do this on a remoted island all by myself. (=
@Brandon - I'm sorry you don't like pericings, and about the punks, I have one freind who goes to another school who is "punk" as you call it and shes one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Maybe this will make people think diffferently of me but it's still the same me inside (= and thanks for the advice about God, that did help. I really don't think He's going to mind.

we can argue in circles about the scriptural context of the levitical law and how it applies today but I wont go down that rabbit hole. I'll ask you to honestly consider four things things : 1) How does this hold to the greatest commandment? 2) How does this hold to 1 Corinthians 10:31? 3) How does this bring edification to the body of Christ(fellow Christians)? 4) What message does this send to the world about the person Jesus Christ and those who claim to be His followers?
I personally feel as if the message we send the world as members of the Body is , " Hello world we can look and do exactly what you do, but God loves me anyway so it doesn't matter." i am not arguing whether tattoos or piercings are sinful or not (that is as said before a rabbit hole) but I tend to think that often the motives and excuses given are rarely scriptural. Even with the concept of scripture tattoos, it is more of a pragmatic excuse than a reverent scripture based decision and often a boast for Christian liberty that cheapens grace.
Nicole - 4/12/11 @ 6:29 PM
@wefromthelight. I guess we are gonna have to agree to disagree. I don't believe it's sending out a negative message. And I don't do a lot of the things my freinds do. I don't believe in judgement from anyone other than God or Jesus Christ and I know that I'll be the first to say, I've judged somebody based on the way they look. If I have a chance to turn those stereotypes around, well thats just a plus to having my favorite color in my hair (=

We are called to live in this world, but not of it. We are told that we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God. Paul made distinctions between baby Christians who were still worldly and those who were spiritually more mature. The Bible says we are to say "No" to worldly passions, and to live self-controlled lives in this present age. I won't sit and debate a topic that is argued over and over, but I mulled it myself for a while years back when I was going to get a tattoo. The scripture in Lev. that simply says not to ever do it was plain to me. I know many of you will tell me of the history of that time and what it meant then etc., but I figured if I'm wrong then I still am not missing much in the brief life here.
Nicole - 4/12/11 @ 9:37 PM
I can see both sides of the argument. I just happen to lean more towards mine lol.
Alyssa Faith Mark. Rep - 4/12/11 @ 10:26 PM
@Nicole- Hahaha, If I could like your last post I would. hahahaha :) It's your decision. Obviously God hasnt convicted you to not dye your hair or get piercings. Like what Underdog said, It's a personal conviction. I love that you want to standout, in your faith and your outer look. I'm the same way. I love to standout.
Nicole - 4/13/11 @ 5:56 AM
Yeah, my goal is neither to stand out or fit in haha, just to be me (=
