well if i spoke to you about it on here, i'd get pretty negative feedback from everyone because of the bias there is in our pagan society. however, if you'd like to discuss it with me personally, please just email me. daniel@seekGodnow.org
@ curtis you can search tattoos in the search bar you will find one big thread with every arguement that tattoos are not sinful and that tattoos are sinful, sift through that and it will help you rather than getting a lopsided point of view.
@Jordan. God wants us to read His word and find answers ACCORDING to His word. He will not give you a "new" revelation. His word endures forever. just saying.
@Japlace - That is true he wants us to read his word and look for how to live our lives there, but he also wants us to ask him for Guidance, which he provides, as it says in Proverbs. We can plans things out, but the Lord determines our path. God speaks to us through so much in our lives. That is why we have prayer to talk with him and meditate on stuff with him.
Your body belongs to God, and if you do have the holy spirit living in you. you should know getting tattoos are bad. and your ruining God temple witch is your body. they may look cool, but just think what if Jesus was sitting by you, what do you think he would say to you. or what if God came back for us and you were getting a tattoo.
@Rob. Yes. DEFINITELY. What I am trying to say, though, is that EVERYTHING God tells us through prayer or prophetic word HAS TO and WILL line up with His word. It has to.
@Destiny Peywa - What do you feel about piercings? I think those are more destructive for your temple than a tattoo.. You are putting wholes throughout your temple to hang pretty shiny things for personal vanity right? Think of tattoos as this way maybe.. Your body is a temple and tattoos are stain glass windows in that temple to artistically express what you believe and your walk in faith. Tattoos on someones body can be an act of worship to God and not only a mess of shapes and sinful pictures.. With a sinful tongue that needs to be in check and actions, why not let your arm or a part of your body be a reminder of how you should be acting with a glance of it?
@Japlace - and it probably does, but he can still share those answers with us through things other than the Bible. The Bible is inspired by him, but not a replacement for him and coming to him wouldn't you agree?
But if you feel that He has given you a word or a motive and it doesn't line up with His word, it is not of Him.
And to further what you said earlier, here is a verse: John 8:47 - "Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God." This is 100% the truth, why? because it from His word. You see what I'm saying?
@Japlace - Yeah I definitely agree if something you feel God telling you doesn't line up with what he has taught in the bible on that issue then it is probably not him.
@everyone as previously stated that tattoos and piercings are bad for your body since its God temple then shouldn't fatty fast food be cinsidered sinful too? And being over weight? Cause after all they are both bad for you. Also how about women putting on makeup that can be compared to marking your body and also the same as a piercing as glomouring themselfs. So if tattoos are sinful then and piercings then bad foods must be also, and womens makeup and changing of hair color and jewelry.
Cause it would be hyprocritical to say one thing is destroying the temple but then another thing would be ok, take for instance if you believe tattoos are not sinful but piercings are not ok because it glamours someone, well would it be sinful if the piercings had earings that said Jesus is lord? So tattoos can be a witnessing tool and piercings so if you believe one is sinful the other must be too.
I agree with Japlace. We had better see if what we are hearing or thinking is right lines up with the Word of God.
Here is my post from one of the last discussions we had on this subject.
MY REASONS:I have never felt led to get a tattoo. Besides I know the origins of them and don't want anything to do with paganism or witchcraft. I know everyone seems to get them nowadays but that doesn't make it okay with God. The inportant thing, I think, is this.If you want to get a tattoo, ask yourself "Why an I wanting to do this?" And be honest with yourself;really think on it! If you already have a tattoo ask yourself," Why did I get this tattoo?" Again please be honest with yourself and seek an answer from God. You might find yourself with a different opinion than you had before. God doesn't throw you away when you get a tattoo. He has used and still does use all kinds of people who have tattoos. In fact, my pastor has a small tattoo on his arm and God is using Him in a great way. However, he regrets getting the tattoo and has renounced it. He wasn't serving the Lord when he got it. I have read a really good article on tattooing by William M Sudduth Sr. I'll quote one part of that here. "The letting of blood and body modification have always been associated with pagan worship and witchcraft. Pagans and Christians alike know there is power in the blood. In spite of the current interest in tattooes even in the church, all research points to one conclusion: it is, and always has been, a pagan spiritual activity." If you already have a tattoo, I don't doubt your love for Jesus. I believe you want to serve Him! But, please, think on it, consider the origins, and open you heart to see what God will tell you on this subject. A book to think of reading is "What's behind the Ink?" by William M. Sudduth Sr. who, by the way, has a tattoo. If you want to read the article I was talking about the link is www.charismamag.com.php/features/2010/january/25807-the-dark-side-of-tattoos So.........now you all know my stand on tattoos. If you want to talk about it with me go ahead. But I don't plan on posting on this topic again. Unless I discover something hew on the subject!
@PHBOI - Make up isn't exactly comparable and when you take a blanket look at thing it is easy to let things be overlooked in detail.. My talking about piercings was based off of MOST people getting them for personal vanity and not to glorify God. I am not saying all tattoos are great, but with the right intent and meaning they are fine I believe and not harmful to yourself or others.
@KingsKid - The Origin or Tattooing may of come from pagan culture, but if you look into a lot of things we enjoy or have, so can they really.. It is good to ask yourself why you are getting a tattoo, but do you honestly think someone is getting a verse or a scene of crosses and other expressions of Christian Faith to look "cool" to everyone? Sadly right now there are so many people turned off by Christians we would surely reach more persecution than praise for that type of expression. We do it as a reminder to ourselves, as an expression, worship, encourage others, and share that love with others. AS it says in Proverbs 3:3 "Let Love and Faithfulness not leave you, but bind them around your neck and write them upon the tablet of your heart." I will be a living act of worship for my God and display art that lifts him up and shows how much he means to me and not let that Love and Faithfulness fade away. I am fine with something permanent on me that glorifies the Lord and reminds me of his love.
I get what your saying Rob, but I think even if you do get a tattoo its to show it off and there is some sense of self pride or enjoyment. Funny no matter how many times this topic comes up it gets so many comments lol
Well you write a poem or paint a piece or art that is worship to God to show it off to others also? You take joy in the expression and the fact that others are enjoying it as well.
That's a good point so how come people don't do that instead or buy dog chain from c28 and wear it rather than get tattoos. Now I'm playing devils advocate here cause I myself have many tattoos which I got in the past. But how come in the bible we didn't see Jesus followers doing something liking getting tattoos. That said Jesus is Lord or do you think they did?

Such a controversial topic. You honestly just have to ask God and the Holy Spirit will let you know what He wants you to do.
