Okay, so from the family I come from our men are taught from a young age to be tough and to be protectors. We all play football and lift almost daily for about 2 hours. My goal in posting this isn't to brag, but to shed some light. My reason for posting this is when the men of my family go to church we feel uncomfortable because there are a lack of Men's men in the church. I feel constantly surrounded by soft men who keep talking about God's love, but have never addressed serious issues like lust and addictions. so my big question is...why is there such a lack of strong, tough christian men in the church?

Granted I am not a man...I wud very well like to put my two cents in here.
-It seems like all the things you listed are superifically and externally what makes a man strong
-But God has diffrent views on what he believe's makes a man strong
I would like to refer you to this poem called: When I became a man

Take for example Gideion and David....Both of them externally didn't seem to be strong men of God...But look at how they changed their surroundings...and were able to give God all the Glory because of how he used them.
Like the bible says Man looks at apperance and God looks at the heart..It's more important to be strong in faith & in christ...then in stature...what do you say?

I agree with Nazira. Playing football and lifting weights is fun and it's always good to stay in shape but that has nothing to do with being a man. To the world, those things might define a man but to the Holy Spirit living inside us believers, it is what's internal that makes a man.

Being a follower of Jesus Christ is the most manly thing a guy can do!

I appreciate the input. However you have misinterpreted what I was trying to say. I never said I value guys who work out and play football over solid christian guys. Not the case. My question is, why do we have a gap between them? It seems as if a guy is a strong man of Christ, he can't be a strong man physically and be the head of his house, but in retrospect men who work out and play football are most often non-believers or believers who need help. so, explain the gap. Now, there are exceptions of course, but this is a general thing I have seen.

& for all of those people out there who say appearance doesn't matter b/c God only looks on the inside, I strongly disagree. If we are going to play that game, then the light of Christ inside of you should be reflected in the way you dress. (IE girls need to cover up and we shouldn't be dressing like we're emo). Is it the most important thing? Absolutely now. is it important however. yes.

Gentlemen I respectfully disagree with your last statement about appearance, but I get what your trying to say! Basically men who are masculine Aplpha males seem not to be christian but males who are christian seem to be labeled as soft, push overs wimpy, etc.. I get that but I think the problem lies in the fact that most males dont accept christ or really take Jesus seriously until their older and you usually see elder males in the church but you dont see many males in their prime at ages 21 to 35. So that gives the appearance that males who are christians arent the strong Alpha males.

haha just for clarification I made a type. it's absolutely NOT the most important thing. I appreciate the input PutHisBloodOnIt

I'm pretty physically fit and I'm a solid christian and the same goes for most of my friends. Maybe it's just the area you're in. Christians come in all shapes and sizes just like non-believers.
As to you comment about appearance being important, I partially agree with you on that because having a poor appearance won't really attract non-believers but I don't necessarily think that you need to be heavily muscled or anything to look good lol.
