So true, Ive been reading The Heavenly Man (if you havent yet read it- I highly recommend it!) and Brother Yun talks about the suffering himself and other fellow Christians in China have been through for the gospel. Brother Yun traveled through the Western world in the Back To Jerusalem vision (still going on) and as he did, he saw the difference in faith in the western world. We have become far too materialistic, in China when they tithe, they have nothing to give, yet they give all of the little they have. They are so willing to give up their lives for the gospel, yes christians in the western world are also strong believers and I would like to think that over the next couple years I may be as strong as those Chinese missionaries. It is about time we give up our stupid earthly possessions and concentrate on Glorifying God and carrying out the Great commission!

The re-re-re-rise of Greek Cynicism. Dun dun dun.

1 Timothy 6 vs 17-18 "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share."

Ecclesiastes 10:19 Men prepare a meal for enjoyment, and wine makes life merry, and money is the answer to everything.

lol

John - 1/20/10 @ 12:32 PM

http://www.raystedman.org/eccles/3815.html that will put the Ecclesiastes thing in perspective for you alpha. if you read surrounding passages things would make more sense for you. context sir, context.

Mariah - 1/20/10 @ 12:46 PM

Haha I thought you may bring that one up.. but think about this also,
James 5 vs 1-6 "Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you."

Omega - 1/20/10 @ 4:31 PM

Wow, it is safe to say that this is a polarized topic. Does God want poverty or wealth? Well simply the answer is, YES. God is Love; if money is an item (or idol) that comes between you and God, then it is safe to say that it is better, maybe, to have less. If it is not, and it is in Gods will, then (provided it is honest money) there is nothing wrong with it!! We must remember that it is a tool, just as any tool; it can be used as a weapon. If having large amounts of money inflicts harm to others and effects our relationship with Christ, then we are in sin. If we have large amounts of money and do the will of God with it, then we are not in sin. Money and property are nothing. The only true substance is the state of our character, this is not to say that they are not important, money and currency is very important, even to the church.

God does not call us to be poor; He calls us to be poor in spirit. When we truly do this we reach a point where we surrender all to Him, and say "my ways did not work, I have much but am empty inside. I want all that You have for me, complete me and guide me. I am willing to loose everything for You!!!" This is where He can work. This does not mean he will ask of you to sell everything, but rather that our mindset must be one of willingness to do just that.

Remember even Paul worked and had money so that he would not be a burden on the church and the community.

John - 1/20/10 @ 5:23 PM

oh i never said that he wants us to be in poverty, but it is crazy to think that God is telling us that he wants us all to be rich.

jay.me - 1/20/10 @ 5:45 PM

I agree with what Omega said, it is "striving" after money, and the love of money that could be a problem. But also like John said...I certainly disagree with the "prophets for profit"

Alpha - 1/20/10 @ 7:15 PM

"If we have large amounts of money and do the will of God with it"
-Then you will no longer have large amounts of money. :)

"Money and property are nothing."

Ecclesiastes 10:19 Men prepare a meal for enjoyment, and wine makes life merry, and money is the answer to everything.

Kohelet disagrees. ;)

Mariah- Yeah, I was joking. lol

Jonathan - 1/20/10 @ 9:53 PM

Joel Olsteen? People actually respect him still? I for one, do NOT. He has no backbone in him what so ever as a christian! On Larry King Live he wont even admit people go to hellif they dont accept Christ ! What kind of preacher is this?!

rEVOLutionary. - 1/21/10 @ 9:37 AM
