I was just wondering what all your thoughts are on this topic. I know a lot of people don't believe the baptism of the Holy Sprit is for today. This is definitely NOT true!
The Bible says "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever." Heb. 13:8
Also Acts 2:14-18 is another passage to read.
Acts 2:38-39 says that we will recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit after we have become believers.
So what are your thoughts and beliefs?

Its clearly in the bible, this is not a debatable topic in my view.

I know! You are right. How come some just can't seem to see it? Or don't accept it, I guess. It is an awesome gift from God.

The Bible clearly says that we have the Holy Spirit. I have seen people give prophecies and speak words of encouragement to those who didn't let anyone know their pain. I've seen people be healed instantly. I have seen miracles time and again, and it would take more faith than I have to believe that the Holy Spirit is no longer with us.

I think some people have such a spiritual blindness that don't let them accept reality that God is real and Jesus is our saviour. Here is a story for u guys, I have one buddy who is a believer but just hasn't taken his faith seriously he is off and on I guess u can say well his mom goes to this smaller church with like 30 members and they believe in speaking in tongues and I have visited the church a few times and have witnessed some members speaking in tongue and me and my buddy use to kid about it and one time we went back to the church my buddy received the gift of speaking in tongues and I was so suprised and knew he was not faking it it cause he would have told me he said it was something he has never experienced before.

Have you ever been spiritually convicted? That’s the Holy Spirit people. There’s no question if you are a believer you are possessed !

I do believe the baptism of the Holy Sprit is for today, but It is harder for me to accept because I was raised in a luthren church in which tounges, talking in church, healings and such was considered demon work not from God. I also have never seen anyone "miraculously" or "instantly" healed, so I am trying to accept it more but It is definetly hard changing my way of thinking.
@ Don please define "Possessed" because the Holy spirit never "forces" us do anything He speaks to us by "faint impressions on the heart".

In the bible it speaks of some of the disciples and others speaking in tongues and laying hands on others, I mean its in the bible for anyone to see its undisputable.

I know what your are saying PHBOI and im not disagreeing what im saying is the church I had gone to killed my belief in that area and now im trying to believe it more but it is hard...

Oh I understand Andrew, its ok it took me awhile to believe in somethings I didn't think were true in the bible. What helped is just looking at the facts and the evidence, there is still spmethings I have trouble believing but I know its true cause its in the bible, so I'm with ya and I can relate to what your saying.
KingsKid - 11/9/10 @ 3:19 PM
Agreed, PHBOI!
Andrew, believing is the main part. Once you believe that the Holy Spirit is for today, you are open to the miracles of God and what He can do. The Holy Ghost is amazing! And speaking in tongues is just one of the ways He is manifested in our lives.

Yeah, I've been raised conservatively in these areas (though my mom was a Pentecostal), so...I do struggle with the really dramatic healings and stuff like that, but i definitely know that God CAN and DOES do it!!! Holy Spirit? Definitely!

Good post. The world changes over time but JESUS DOES NOT!!!
KingsKid - 11/16/10 @ 6:17 PM
Absolutely, Craig! Jesus is still the same as He was 2,000 years ago, and He still gives us the same gifts as the early church experienced. He never changes. Hebrews 13:8, one of my all-time favourite verses, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever."

If that were true (that being baptized is not relative in today's time)than why are we still taking communion? We still take the cup to symbolize Christ's blood and the bread to symbolize his body to remember what He has done for us, and I think it is the same reason that we are baptized. It is to show that we are physically washed by the blood, and we do it in a social setting (just like communion) so that we may be a community of Christians that hold one another accountable. They both hold the same importance to me.

I agree with everything that PHBOI said!

Jesus said He is the way, the Truth, & the life. Now, how in the world could someone seeking the Truth ever find it if it keeps changing??? God is the same yesterday, today, & tomorrow. If the Truth keeps changing....is it truth (or possibly a lie??? We know who the Father of lies is right?) Just something to think about.

My question is if Laying on of Hands is a gift we have today...why aren't there LINES of Christians at the hospitals???
KingsKid - 1/7/11 @ 5:42 PM
Good question, Steven. And interesting concept, too. Makes a person think.
Ashley - 1/3/13 @ 2:02 PM
@steven
I think some of it has to do with belief in christians, like they may have a fear that their prayers won't work when they are laying hands, but fear activates satan, faith activates God.
also my brother in christ got kicked out of one of our local hospitals for praying for someone, but glory to God she acepted christ before he got kicked out :)
my dad shared with me a story of these youths straight up on fire for the Lord and they went to a local hospital and were walking down the hall praying and patients were being healed and the doctors were so perplexed at what was happening lol that's our God!

Not trying to stop the conversation, but I have just three things to interject:
If you do not believe in the Holy Spirit - Simply ask Him to move into your life (in all aspects, giving it up to Him)
If you believe He is real, but question some things - Simply ask Him to move into your life (in all aspects, giving it up to Him)
If you believe in Him, and don't question it, but are having a hard time becoming baptized in the Holy Spirit - Don't quit... Never, ever quit pursuing Him.
