1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
As a human, we fail at defining love because we have twisted/distorted views of what love is. So it's best to use scripture :)
but what if we twist the scripture itself in our head? Like I take the aspects of what I think I love and go yea, it is true love but I feel it really isn't... lol I won't go into detail but someone should break it down, that would be kool...
Like patient with what (thats a more obvious one) what does love not envy though? the person you "Love"s stuff, or other people that love the one you "love" or what?
If some one broke down each one you would be awesome!
Scripture is quite reliable, as long as the source of interpretation is sound. Just as you cannot throw a party with loud music with a 0.5 Watt Speaker.. it just won't sound at all... The only way we can actually interpret/understand what love is, is to look at multiple scriptures and to meditate, debate and discuss our views with fellows.
Most certainly I'd personally recommend the 1 Corinthians 13 section but if you really want to know what love is, look at Christ and His life... If you see no love there, man... You'll hit a wall when you look at 1 Corinthians...
Love is, in my opinion, the desire to share the fruit of the spirit with others without wanting anything in return for it is your delight to love. Christ dies for us because he loved us, he never needed anything from us but he wanted to see us happy so that he can share His goodness (fruit of the spirit) with us.
Oh yea, most importantly... Love has no age restrictions!... Just some aspects of love can be vandalized and misinterpreted with ease :P
Exactly what this song is talking about. (link above ^^^)
Lyrics:
Come close listen to the story about a love more faithful than the morning The Father gave his only Son just to save us
The earth was shaking in the dark All creation felt the Fathers broken heart tears were filling heaven's eyes The day that true love died, the day that true love died When blood and water hit the ground Walls we couldn't move came crashing down We were free and made alive The day that true love died, The day that true love died
Search your heart you know you can't deny it Come on, lose your life just so you can find it The Father gave his only son just to save us
The earth was shaking in the dark All creation felt the Fathers broken heart tears were filling heaven's eyes The day that true love died, the day that true love died When blood and water hit the ground Walls we couldn't move came crashing down We were free and made alive The day that true love died, The day that true love died
Now, Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive X4 Oh, He is alive He rose again
When blood and water hit the ground Walls we couldn't move came crashing down We were free and made alive The day that true love died, The day that true love died
Love is a verb. It is not a passive feeling or a selfish desire. Love is an action, it is selfless and not concerned with its own wellbeing. "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)
Also, read 1 Corinthians 13. These are the characterists of love. Read the accounts of Jesus's life: He is love in action.
Awhile ago in the forums I had a topic about love and the definition Seth is correct love is not a feeling love is an action. And what is or was the greatest act of love in history? Look no further when God sent his sinless son to die on the cross for our sins saving us from eternal seperation from God.

laying down your life for a friend. Bible says that's true love

It depends on what kind of love you are talking about?

Yes, God is love. True love is from God and of God.
Read 1 John 4: 10 as well.
