If God is Loving... Why? posted in Get A Clue on 10/29/10 @ 5:00 PM by Andrew

Ok so if God loves us why would he predestion anyone to go to Hell (exodus 9:13-18 and romans 9:16-18)? Why would he create man and know they would sin and seperate themselves? wouldn't it have been kinder if they were never created at all? but he created us for HIS OWN GLORY. Also why would he hate someone?

"but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his mountains into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals."

also He pretty much in romans 9:19-21 Man handles us

One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?

I mean I know no matter what I will stay Christian because there has to be more purpose than just being a floating blob but is Christianity really Love or ALL about his glory and really not much love?

It's all about His glory. You may not like that, but think of it like this -

God is divine. He is holy. Therefore He should be worshipped. He created the heavens and the earth, He allows us to have life when we only deserve eternal seperation. He lets us have hopes and dreams and replaces them with His own plan because He knows best.

Really, that's all there is to it. He knows best. If He knows better, why question Him? Especially if we know He is always going to know better?

I don't think He enjoys sending people to hell though. In fact, I know He doesn't - He sent His son to prove that. Now, He doesn't have to watch you or I be forever seperated from Him.

Andrew - 10/30/10 @ 1:12 PM

Thank you Thirst
It is to his glory, but Its hard for me a mere human to grasp how he can love us yet send people to hell for his glory (a little bit selfish in my opinion) I now get what you are talking about with why question him. He does know best.

Casey - 10/31/10 @ 9:52 AM

Another really interesting thing for me is when someone can as "why does God let so many children die from hunger? Why does he let so many people die in pointless wars?"

The questions that are almost NEVER brought up "Why do WE let so many children die from hunger? Why do WE let so many of our brothers and sisters die in pointless wars?" All of these things that we often question God about, we are directly responsible for.
A very logical answer in my opinion :)

PutHisBloodOnIt - 10/31/10 @ 12:04 PM

Right on Casey! God gave this world to us to take care of and take care of each other. It is OUR responsibility to help others, to feed our brothers and sisters who are hungry, to give them clothing, and generally just be there for them in time of need. I know most of you are pretty young and dont have jobs or much money but keep this in mind, the money you make when you get older is not yours its Gods be a good stuart of your money and use it how you think God would want you too. Jesus fed his followers and never sent them away hungry, he prayed with people in need, he was a humanitarian.

Here is a book everyone should check out called: HUMANITARIAN JESUS..and below is a paragraph explaining what the book is about....

There are few issues of theology that confuse me more than issues related to social justice. Those who advocate Christian humanitarianism, those who tell Christians that they are responsible before God to fight injustice, to feed the hungry, to free the oppressed, are able to provide a compelling case and they are able to tap into a deep vein of guilt. It is difficult to hear of poor and hungry children and not feel that the primary mission of Christians must be to feed such people. And yet when we look around we see that ministries or organizations that make such a task their primary calling so quickly fade into theological obscurity. The social gospel so often trumps the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Love isn't something God can do, God IS love, God IS everything.

Alpha - 1/2/11 @ 4:57 PM

"Love isn't something God can do, God IS love, God IS everything."
-Not to be augmentative, or anything...but that last part sounds more deist than Christian.

Donald - 1/2/11 @ 7:27 PM

It sounds very biblical to me.

Alpha - 1/2/11 @ 9:08 PM

haha I just realized I wrote augmentative...opps =P

I'm just saying that it sounds quite similar to deism lol

Donald - 1/2/11 @ 9:31 PM

yea i saw that haha

well it might sound like deism, but its really not.

Reagan - 1/2/11 @ 9:34 PM

Haha. Funny story, I had an persuasive debate about this in my Bible class before Christmas.

I went to my youth pastor for help and the one thing that he said that stuck out to me was...
"The questions isn't 'why does God send people to hell', rather 'why should a sinless God let sinful people into heaven?'"

I will admit that I'm a Calvinist, so I won't get to involved because I'll start arguing :D

happy_panda - 1/2/11 @ 10:23 PM

@Donald I think Alpha questioned your "God is Everything" statement since it aligns with pantheism o-o technically, if God is everything, the reverse that everything is God would also be true, but according to the Bible, not everything is God. For example, sin isn't God. did you mean that God means everything to you? if so, that's perfectly fine but you should probably reword it since it's easy to misinterpret stuff on the internet... i'm super sorry if i misinterpreted you!

Jon - 1/3/11 @ 10:03 AM

The simple answer is God sends no one to hell. People send themselves. Free will was given to man and with it a choice. Choose God and serve him, or reject God and go to hell. As christians it is up to us to tell people about Jesus. At least then they can make an informed decision on their final destination.

Alpha - 1/3/11 @ 11:22 AM

-Donald: What The Panda O' Happiness said. :P

-Jon: Firstly, you have to realize that if God offered that choice, he would be accepting that some people would end up in Hell...so he --in essence, if not in a specific act-- was choosing to send people to Hell.
And if people had a simple, clear choice to go to Heaven or Hell, I'm pretty sure most ppl would choose Heaven; the issue is all the questions without good answers...
...why is Christianity a better way to Heaven than Islam or Buddhism or any other system of belief?
...why can't people just choose to "serve God, or reject God" and avoid the very confusing middleman Jesus?
And there are many other similar questions.

Sarah - 1/3/11 @ 2:14 PM

Totally agree with Jon. God does not send us to hell. God does not cause children to die.
He allows it, because He gives us free choice, and because this world is sinful.

Donald - 1/3/11 @ 3:36 PM

@happy_panda-your right he's not sin. Sin and God could never be one, so obviously I wasn’t including sin into my statement. haha
but yea i should have mentioned something about sin in my statement.

joseBloodBought - 1/4/11 @ 10:28 AM

Here's a simple analogy. I may be the only one with kids so this may only seem relevant to me. Whn you spank your chikdren its not because you don;t love them. Its in order to discipline them and get them on the right course. If my son lies to my wife, he will have to deal with whatever punishment she dishes out. if he lies to me, the punishment may be a little more severe. If he lies in school, he may face suspension. If he lies at work, he may get fired. if he lies to a judge it's perjury and he will go to jail. As you see its the same offense but the stakes get higher depending on who you commit the offense against. If you lie you are commiting an offense to god. Hell is just. God is a perfect and holy judge; therefore for His glory He mush issue justice. If I murdered your mom and the judge just let me off because he loved me you would be upset because justice hadn't been served. in all fairness there must be justice.but God in just proceedings allowed for a substitute one to take His wrath on our behalf. Now why then will some still perish for the glory of God not all can enter into the gates. God in His divine will for His glory sake has predestined some to enter and some who wouldnt for He calls us all but many hide their face from Him and thuse He will do likewise.

Jon - 1/5/11 @ 7:02 AM

@werfromthelight

I tried to make this analogy yesterday but coulnd't come out with it so thanks

and to paraphrase Mr. C.S Lewis- God loves us so much that he would allow us to choose hell over him just so we would have the freedom to choose.

For the wages of sin is death..

all have sinned and fall short of the glory of G-d

canons of dort

First Head of Doctrine.

Divine Election and Reprobation

FIRST HEAD: ARTICLE 1. As all men have sinned in Adam, lie under the curse, and are deserving of eternal death, God would have done no injustice by leaving them all to perish and delivering them over to condemnation on account of sin, according to the words of the apostle: "that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God." (Rom 3:19). And: "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (Rom 3:23). And: "For the wages of sin is death." (Rom 6:23).

the question is not that why does G-d damn some..
(for all have sinned)

the question is why does a JUST G-d save any?
(for none are rightious)

we are NOT worthy of salvation, yet recieve it.

Rmns 11 nlt
And since it is through God's kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God's grace would not be what it really is--free and undeserved.

Steven - 1/8/11 @ 3:24 AM

Alpha, you said the 'confusing middle man Jesus Christ'?

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
