Hey everyone, so I thought I'd bring up a health topic... a serious one...
DU DU DUHHhh aaaaccccnnneeeee..... Yes, acne. lol.
I wanted to share what I've been doing to help my acne, and I also wanted to ask what you guys and girls do (whether natural remedies or drug store brands...or whatever)! :D Am sure this could be helpful, so here we go:
I'm into all natural stuff, and affordable too. I'm on a pretty squeaky clean diet (not specifically because of acne, just to be healthy in general..which in turn helps acne of course) I don't eat processed foods, sugar, nothing like that. Everything's whole, organic, that sort of thing. Despite that, I still get acne (of course, a LOT LOT LOT less than when I use to eat processed foods..) Several months ago my skin started to change though.. I don't really have "teen acne-prone skin" anymore, am kinda on the adult side now, which is great!! But I still do get it. Aside from exercising (sweating or at least getting red in the face), the diet, drinking lots of water, having essential oils and vitamins and stuff like that, also washing the face as well as exfoliating and moisturizing, for topical remedies, lately I've been using lemon juice (AMAZING!!!!) and for another topical remedy, apple cider vinegar mixed with water (wonderful!!). I've also found microdermabrasion works really nice. And using any kind of remedy before you go to sleep at night (even the drinking of water) helps best it seems!..at least with me ;P
Some questions I have, aside from what you all do for your acne and what has worked to get rid of your acne, is:
Has anyone used the DermaNew Microdermabrasion kit for acne? If you have, does it work well for acne?? I've only done at home mild microdermabrasion, and was thinking of investing in something real cause I liked the results of what I have done by hand... the DermaNew seems like a nice deal, but I just was wondering if anyone knew anything bad about it?? I've only been hearing good things about it but thought I'd ask incase someone here knows anything bad about it! :D
And, what have you guys done for acne scars? That's one thing I have yet to research..... I don't really have any acne scars, but I have a couple, and am hoping they will go away with what I am currently doing, but I just wanted to know if any of you have any experience with getting rid of scars :)
Anywho, hope this helps someone :)
P.S. About the topical remedies I use, NOTE: The lemon juice will sting if on an open blemish. If it's too strong for you you can dilute it with water. It will work best if you can open your pores up first with warmth (steam, or hot towel...). It's REALLY great for blackheads, given you open the pores up first. Also, lemon juice WILL fade any dark spots on your face, which is great, but that also include freckles. So unless you hate freckles, avoid putting the lemon juice on your freckles lol Concerning the apple cider vinegar and water mixture.. MAKE SURE there is more water than apple cider vinegar!!! Also note that other kinds of vinegars won't have the same effect on acne as apple cider vinegar, and only cider vinegars are ok to put on your skin. If you have any kind of irritability or allergy or whatever to lemon or the vinegar, stop using it of course... it's best to test things first, before putting it all over your face. But the apple cider vinegar and water will help out your PH levels.. if you have dry skin, it'll help it not be dry, if you've got oily skin, it will help it not be oily (just make sure there is more water than vinegar...) the lemons have BHA's and AHA's in them which is realllllyyyy good for killing the bacteria and stuff.. anywho :)
The main point is targeting the causes of acne: your pores getting clogged with 1. oil and 2. dead skin cells, and 3. bacteria forming in there. And if you are a girl, makeup can also clog pores so make sure you wash the make up off after the day is done! if you're a teen, then a lot of it has to do with your hormones but yeah :)
Anywho, enough of me talking, what are your tips! :D

I use Acne Free! :)
Stephanie - 10/15/10 @ 8:26 PM
I've never tried it myself, so I dont know how well it works - but this girl I know was putting straight aloe on her face

@Stephanie.. I recently heard about the aloe vera thing for acne too! I dunno if it works either, but I'd imagine it would.. it has healing properties and would help swelling :) also soothes anything irritating, so it's probably great for acne :) but I really dunno.. should try it some time :) wonder where you can buy straight aloe.......
Stephanie - 10/15/10 @ 8:41 PM
@ o.0
yeah, it seemed like a good idea - she just had an aloe plant and she was literally opening it and sticking the aloe leaves directly onto her face.
I have an aloe plant - maybe Ill try it - see if it works

@ Reagan
That stuff looked really cool - I filled out the thing to find out mine - but I didnt know if I was answering the questions right lol
Reagan - 10/15/10 @ 10:20 PM
Lol I didnt either! Im pretty for sure I over exaggerated! Lol but it works well

@Reagan yeah I took the skin ID testy thing but I wasn't sure if I answered all the question right, which is funny.. shows you how much I don't pay attention to myself lol you'd think I'd know these things....lol but am sure it works, it looks like there is a lot of benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid in those products, which are great ways of getting rid of acne :) have never tried skin ID before tho..... how much does skin ID cost?
Alyssa Faith Mark. Rep - 10/16/10 @ 12:52 PM
@O.0- You have to go to www.skinid.com and take the Skin ID evaluation, and then purchase it online! For your first personalized kit it is $39.90 + S&H. :)

Aloe vera does work...though I haven't used it much.
You can also use 3% hydrogen peroxide, but you do have to be careful and make sure you keep your skin moisturized, because it will dry the skin out otherwise (but that stuff works REALLY well!)
I've found that washing my face twice per day (or more, but again, you have to be careful not to dry it out), and changing pillow cases frequently, keeping hair clean, etc. also worked wonders on my skin.
I have heard about the apple cider vinegar and lemon methods, but I never tried them (or exfoliating or anything).
Now, I also probably had it pretty easy compared to a lot of teens, and I know my skin is turning "adult" too, so I don't have to worry quite so much anymore. =)
As for acne scars...??? But I'd really like to know. =/ Because I do have some :S

Try Vitamin E, just by itself, on acne scars. Like, just break open a capsule and smear it on. I haven't personally used it but Vit. E is really good for skin problems and scars.

hey so i've used the apple cider vinegar thing and it works lovely, though i've never used lemon. (though i have in hair lotions, i make my own) Another thing that works realy well is to use a toner after you clean off your face, vinegar or wahtever, and then some good lotions (like i use striaght shea butter oil) Also exfoliating works really good to clear dead skin cells from skin, which prevents wrinkles and such. And for puffiness like around your eyes, using a little back vibrator thing like for massages, yeah, on the puffiness for a couple minutes is great, it like deflates it.

@KingsKid I've heard about the Vit. E for acne scars.... i wonder what it does exactly. I mean, I don't know anything about scar tissue so am a bit confused on how it can make like, an indent on the skin go away..... hmm... tho there is also scars that stick out, wonder if it only works on some scars...... should try it! just need to go out and get some vitamin E... so it's like.. a liquid or something in a capsule?
O.0 - 10/16/10 @ 9:52 PM
@Teah how do you make your hair lotions? n is it like.. a shampoo sort of thing, or an after the shower sort of thing?
Teah - 10/17/10 @ 3:54 PM
@ O.O i buy (out of section in walmart for black people) the olive oil, oil, and i add vitam E, D, a little bit of lemon to get products out of my hair (like hairspray). lol and thats just lotions, i make hair scrubs from sea salt and dried lotion and lotion and a couple other things and you just use that instead of shampoo because shampoo take ALL the oils out of your hair, good and bad. I also do hot oil treatments, which is just hot oil and some salts desolved in it. lol i love doing hair :P

i am a cosmetology student and the best thing that you can do for acne is SOAP AND WATER AND drink LOTS of water. vitamin e will get rid of your scars, but it also makes your skin more oily.
O.0 - 10/18/10 @ 1:14 PM
@ Katie what kind of soap is best to use on acne??
Katie - 10/19/10 @ 1:25 AM
dove face soap. all of those other acne pads just make your skin dry, damage the top layer of your skin and enhance your scars. a lot of the oil in your skin is truly in what you eat. if you are eating lots of fried food, yes it will show in your skin. try lots of veggies, and fruits. things that are high in vitamin b12, e and c. if your acne gets worse, or is still not improving your best bet is to see a dermatologist.
KingsKid - 10/19/10 @ 2:34 PM
@O.0.Yeah, the Vitamin is in an oil like, in a capsule, but you can also buy it in a bottle. I just like the capsule. It only takes a little bit and Vit. E is also really great for any itchy or really dry patches you might have. I guess some have really oily skin, but right now I lean more towards the dry side. :)
Zinc ointment is good if you slather it on before going to bed. It kinda makes your face look weird and in the morning the skin feels a bit chalky, but it is good as an astringent. My sister also has used cornmeal mixed with just enough water to make a paste, then you apply it to your skin where it is oliy and the pores are clogged. She said it works good.

I feel funny being the only guy to post, but hey! We get acne too! lol.
I have some scarring, and what SEEMS to be working (It takes a while for it to become noticeable) is, as KingsKid said, Vit. E. I Got a lil; bottle of it from Trader Joes (Sweet store btw).
But honestly, whatever u use or whatever it is, it will work BUT u have to use or do it consistently. If you do it for a 3 days, and give up on it, it wont have a chance! So consistency.
(now i await PHBOI to pop out of no where and ask where my veggie tale blankie is... LOL ;P)
But yeah, i used to be really self conscious about my skin, but you have to realize that its nothing to be ashamed of. If your confident with yourself, no one will even notice your skin, and even if they do as long as your not all, "don't look at me!!!! >:(" they wont even care! It took me a while to realize it, be who you are and don't be ashamed :)
