Post reasons here why you believe Christianity to be the one, true religion. posted in General on 12/28/09 @ 12:43 PM by Corey

Ill start.

-Other religions simply fulfill Biblical prophecy.

-The countless miracles and testimonies from people who believe.

-All the prophecy that has been fulfilled in the Bible (some in our generation), which there is no other explanation other than supernatural power.

I might post more when/if I can think of more.

"-Other religions simply fulfill Biblical prophecy."
-How do you get that?

"-The countless miracles and testimonies from people who believe."
-Unobjective. Muslims and Taoists claim to see miracles too.

"-All the prophecy that has been fulfilled in the Bible (some in our generation), which there is no other explanation other than supernatural power."
-Not all prophecy has been fulfilled.
And the ones that are filled are often very vague or easily foreseen. Supernatural powers are not the only explanation.

Alpha Alpha Alpha...

why do you under mine us we all love you, very deep in fact, but why are you a wolf in sheeps clothing? you say you are here for God but then you just say that his beliefs are totally wack? he has some good reasons up there he may miss a few in peoples opinions but he believes.

and the reasons i believe are...

1. I have seen God Change my life from the hopeless do nothing to the person who has something to live for

2. testomonies from other people how without him they were nearly destroyed but as soon as they accepted him there lives seemed to increase and grow and finally be free!

3.I have not seen anything that can fully disprove the bible without dispproving themselves along the way

4.there has to be a higher power there is no way we are here by chance. even one of the top leaders of athiesim admitted in "Expelled" (the documentary) that there was some form of creator

5. probably my worst reason if your an athiest and your wrong your done, if you are a christian and you are wrong oh well you lived life and your gone big whoop but if your christian and your right you earn a blood stained ticket allowing you through the gates of heaven. (I use this to try and bring truth to most athiests)

6.everything is meaningless without THE CREATOR (read Eecclesiastes)

Alpha - 12/29/09 @ 11:25 PM

" you say you are here for God "
-Never said that.

"1. I have seen God Change my life from the hopeless do nothing to the person who has something to live for

2. testomonies from other people how without him they were nearly destroyed but as soon as they accepted him there lives seemed to increase and grow and finally be free!"
-That is not objective, and it proves nothing other than that when people want to change, they change.
Ive known Muslims who attribute Allah with making their lives better. Doesnt prove that Islam is the one true religion(or that Allah even exists.)

"3.I have not seen anything that can fully disprove the bible without dispproving themselves along the way"
-Then you must have trouble seeing.

"4.there has to be a higher power there is no way we are here by chance. even one of the top leaders of athiesim admitted in "Expelled" (the documentary) that there was some form of creator"
-Argument from incredulity, argumentum ad authority and it still is not conclusively proof of God!

"5. probably my worst reason if your an athiest and your wrong your done, if you are a christian and you are wrong oh well you lived life and your gone big whoop but if your christian and your right you earn a blood stained ticket allowing you through the gates of heaven. (I use this to try and bring truth to most athiests)"
-Pascals Wager fails in so many ways, only an idiot would think it is reason to believe in a god(let alone proof of one.)
If you are a Christian and Islam is true, you have a lot more to worry about than oh well. It is a false dichotomy to think that there are only two choices.
And you think that any sort of all-knowing god would be fooled by anyone who accepts him just to avoid bad things? What a great god you have.

"6.everything is meaningless without THE CREATOR (read Eecclesiastes)"
-The only meaning that exists is the meaning that you choose to see.

i dont have any great wonderful explanation or anything, but i can say that i know the bible is true. although i cannot repeat some of the stories that i have heard over, even just the past few years, i can tell you why i know that God is real and that the Bible is true. and im only going to give you a few examples because i dont have a whole lot of time to write this. (mind you i ramble when i write, like right now, so this could end up being long) i guess ill start with why i know that God is true because that is a bit shorter, last winter the night before Christmas Eve my dad got into a horrible car accident which should have killed him, but it didnt. he passed out in his truck and they didnt find him until the next day, he should have bled to death, but he didnt. when he was at the hospital the did a cat scan (or some really big x-ray thingy) and the doctors found a bruise on his brain, something that has the potential to be deadly. now my dad doesnt believe in Jesus, but the rest of my family does, i found out that he was in the hospital on Christmas Eve morning, my whole family, on both sides of my family (by the way my parents are divorced) began to pray for him. the doctors rushed him to a specialty hospital where they could take care of his head. when he got there they had to take new picture of his brain. when they checked the new pictures they couldnt find the bruise. they took another round of x-rays, no bruise. and, by that night, he was allowed to go home. HE SHOULD HAVE DIED IN THAT CAR ACCIDENT, but he didnt, God was watching over him the whole time.
when i was in seventh grade my dad took me to hawii over spring break, it was wonderful. on the last night we were there he got wasted, he was so drunk he could barely walk, and we were supposed to fly home that night, but the air port was on the other side of the island. i managed to sneak his cell phone away from him and call my mom, panicked. (there werent any adults around where we were on the beach because we had walked to the car)i had to get into the car (behind the drivers seat) with him and drive home. there was such a potential for a death that night, but God guided us the whole way back to where we were staying. we missed our flight, but we had our lives and that was all that mattered.
these are just two little pieces of my story that have shown me that God is there and that He loves each and every one of us. i have had so many more encounters with Jesus Christ than just these, but i dont have near enough words to describe them.

dear alpha,
its quite rude to dissect peoples comments, whether you agree with them or not. if there is a specific part you want to address then address it, but dont just copy the whole thing. and if you are going to be rude, be rude somewhere else because this site is suppose to be encouraging. i am sorry to be so frank and blunt but you are getting quite annoying. this is only the second forum board ive read and on the other one you were very rude as well.

Andrew - 12/30/09 @ 11:59 AM

Jessy,
he is constantly like this but like i told Stephen
"remember not to judge them cause you are just pointing all your sins back at yourself if you start to judge someone make sure you are judgeing yourself along the way. Now Do judge but in a diffrent way based on the actions because how other would a baby learn to do something if the are never told the proper way to do it but dont say anything negative or condem them in any way or your trying to take Gods place but love them and try to grow them

and you say it is meant to be an encouraging site but you just put him down now im not saying i havent done it but we all need to take a look at ourselves in the process it says somewhere in the bible

we can not tell someone they have a sliver in their eye when we ourselves have a plank in our own

or something like that

im also not saying alpha is right he is quite wrong to do so but, look closely at ourseles you did just what he did

-stick to truth and love and keep strong in the LORD our enemies have no power over us unless we let them-

Andrew - 12/30/09 @ 12:02 PM

jessy i know kinda how you feel my parents are divorced and my dad was an alchoholic if you ever need someone to talk to about it im here if you wish

Alpha: "Not all prophecy has been fulfilled.
And the ones that are filled are often very vague or easily foreseen."

No, some are happening in our time.
Vague?? I think you are talking about Horrorscopes.

Heres a prophecy in Luke 19:41-44

Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem, and he said

“If you had known in this day, even you, the things which make for peace! But now they have been hidden from your eyes. 43 “For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”

~~Two days later Jesus told his disciples.....

Luke 21:20,21
“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. 21 “Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city;"

That prophecy was spoken by Jesus in 33 C.E.

It happened just as Jesus warned.
In 66 CE the Roman army under Cestius Gallus attacked the city, but suddenly called it off...giving the Christians who headed Jesus warning time to flee.

Then in 70 CE General Titus besieged the city, encircling it with a 4.5 mile long fence.

from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Jewish%E2%80%93Roman_War

"Roman armies established a permanent camp just outside the city, digging a trench around the circumference of its walls and building a wall as high as the city walls themselves around Jerusalem. Anyone caught in the trench attempting to flee the city would be captured, crucified, and placed in lines on top of the dirt wall facing into Jerusalem.....Those attempting to escape the city were crucified, with as many as five hundred crucifixions occurring in a day."

After 5 months Jerusalem fell, was destroyed and the temple left in ruins.

It was horrible what happened to those who stayed, they starved and some ate their own children.

you can read about the seige here also
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Jerusalem_(70)

Alpha - 12/30/09 @ 8:36 PM

As I said, either vague, or inevitable.
It is no stretch of the imagination to guess that sooner or later(especially in that area, in those times) Jerusalem would be besieged.

Vague, like attempts to explain why the missing link is missing? There is no proof for evolution. Yet you believe that, or else are just promoting a lie knowingly.

Romans 1:25~~~They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.~~~

............................................................

The prophecy in Luke was a warning Jesus gave to HIS FOLLOWERS...Because they were his sheep they recognized his voice.

John 10:24-27~~~~The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.
26 “But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. 27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;"~~~~

.............................................................

So, those who knew and believed Jesus words...listened.

~~~Luke 21:20,21
“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near.
21 “Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city;"~~~
Notice that Jesus said when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies that desolation was NEAR, and for them to leave and NOT go back in. (showing there would be an opportunity to leave)
The first time they were surrounded by armies was In 66 CE the Roman army under Cestius Gallus attacked the city, but suddenly left, that gave time for those who listened to Jesus the opportunity to safely escape.
What about those who trusted in themselves...
Or those who left but then began to second guess Jesus words and returned...
Think about it they didnt know the army would come back. Maby they thought it was ok. But it was clear what Jesus said leave....and those in the country dont go in.
The second time, when the Romans came back, they surrounded the city, built a huge fence and killed those who tried to escape.
~Notice that pilgrims were allowed to enter the city to celebrate Passover, and then not allowed to leave.
Luke 19:43 ~~~“For the days will come upon you when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, and surround you and hem you in on every side, 44 and they will level you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave in you one stone upon another~~~
..............................................................
Alpha said,"It is no stretch of the imagination to guess that sooner or later(especially in that area, in those times) Jerusalem would be besieged."
Jesus said it would be destroyed...no stone left on another.
And so it happened as he said. The temple was destroyed and despite attempts to rebuild it, even to this day, it has not been.
~Jesus stated that prophecy in 33 CE.
~The temple had been there since 516 BCE. For it to be destroyed was no minor event to them. It was the center of the Jewish religion.
~The outbreak of Jewish rebellion leading to the FIRST Jewish Roman war wasnt until 66CE.
I dont see how they (people who actually lived in that time(33CE) and place)thought it was inevitable.
Since it was only those who recognized Jesus voice that left...the others didnt realize what was going to happen at all...they stayed. And died, or were made slaves.
..............................................................
In the course of its history, Jerusalem has only been destroyed twice...
The fist temple was destroyed by the Babylonians in 587 BCE.
And the second time by the Romans in 70 CE.
~~~~BOTH times it was foretold in the Bible.~~~~~

The other prophecy which was stated in Isaiah gives details about who would destroy it and how! (I posted it in the other thread)

God always gives a warning to people of whats going to happen.
And just as in Noahs day...there is a warning for us today.
Only you yourself can heed it or not.

"Vague, like attempts to explain why the missing link is missing? There is no proof for evolution. Yet you believe that, or else are just promoting a lie knowingly"

-There is no missing link; because it is not missing. There are very many transitional fossils.
The only thing that is missing, is your understanding of science.

About the destruction of Jerusalem... you are only seeing what you want to see.
If a man is saying that Jerusalem is going to be attacked,(as was very likely to happen) of course he is going to say leave and dont come back. Not because he supposedly knew they would have the opportunity to return; but because when a city is being attacked, smart people dont come back. Not very much foresight required to see that. You are only attributing psychic powers to him because you already believe he had them.

And even more so, there is no way of knowing that those scriptures were not added after the fall of Jerusalem. It could have been some loyal followers adding prophecies to make their god look real.

"Jesus said it would be destroyed...no stone left on another."
-Im pretty sure that there are stones left on top of each other. ;)

"And so it happened as he said. The temple was destroyed and despite attempts to rebuild it, even to this day, it has not been."
-At least, not in the sense that you are looking for.

"I dont see how they (people who actually lived in that time(33CE) and place)thought it was inevitable. "
-Because the Romans had been establishing its supremacy in the kingdoms surrounding the Mediterranean during that time period.

"Since it was only those who recognized Jesus voice that left...the others didnt realize what was going to happen at all...they stayed. And died, or were made slaves."
-Um, false. People that were not christians left also.

jay.me - 12/31/09 @ 12:37 PM

A " There are very many transitional fossils"

.... you are only seeing what you want to see.

A "About the destruction of Jerusalem"

The only thing that is missing, is your understanding of God.

Alpha - 1/1/10 @ 1:55 PM

Lol. You are ignoring what you dont want to see.

And a great ad hominem.

Kateri - 1/4/10 @ 1:49 PM

I believe because I know I would be dead many times over if the Lord had not helped me. I have stupidly put myself in numerous dangerous and compromising positions and should by all rights be dead. Yet I live. I tried to take my own life and the doctors told my partner that they did not expect me to live. But I did. Because God loves me, because he is not ready to call me home, and because he has great plans for me. I have been in the terrifying grip of addiction and the Lord was the only thing that could pull me out of it. I believe in the Lord because he is the only thing that has always been there for and always will. When I am lonely, scared, feeling sad, he is there. So I believe.

Alpha - 1/4/10 @ 5:17 PM

*rolls eyes* Or, just maybe, there is a valid medical reason why youre alive. Nooo, thattt could never be.

Nicole - 2/10/10 @ 9:06 PM

Alpha - read the book "Angels" by Billy Graham and please, try to explain that to me through your earthly logic.

Ill be praying for you. :)

Brady - 2/12/10 @ 7:52 PM

alpha- we are all praying for u and just know that the majority is faith in the lord

Alpha - 2/12/10 @ 9:40 PM

"ry to explain that to me through your earthly logic."
-People lie. :) Or are mistaken about what they perceive.
